老师 我写了一篇 argument
不知道能否让你指点一二呢
In any profession—business, politics, education, government—those in power should step down after five years.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
Authorities and leadership can be quite significant in any institutions since they are in charge to make decisions that would have profound influence in their areas. Every institution has their own rules on how long should be the appropriate tenure for their leader. If the tenure is too short, the leader may not have enough time to do reform or make any progress. However, if the tenure is unlimited, it would also lead to autocracy which can basically block the corporate ladder. I think the reappointment after every five years can be beneficial for the professions such as politics and government. However, five-year tenure may not be enough for business and education since both of them require long-term and constant devotion.
Firstly, government officials and political leaders should be reelected after every five years. If given them unlimited tenure, government officials who should serve the society as public servant would possibly corrupt and harm the public interest. To illustrate this, since tenure for officials in China last more than 20 years, official become so obsessed with power and there are more than 20 reported corruption cases in China not to mention the unreported ones. If the tenure limit to five years, the officials would be inspired to do more reform in order to be elected again in five years. Additionally, political leaders should be required to resign after five years since they are so powerful that they may easily become autocratic which would lead to unwise decision making. For example, Mao Zedong, the first Chairman of People’s Republic of China became dictator due to the unlimited tenure and made a lot of serious mistakes such as Cultural Revolution and Anti-Right Wings Movement which were significant harmful for the civilians.
Secondly, business leaders should not resign after five year since five-year-tenure would be insufficient for a business to develop. Starting a business can be quite time-consuming and frequent change in business leadership can lead the whole corporation into perplexity. For instance, Steve Jobs worked as the CEO of Apple for over 15 years, during this period, he made a series farsighted and unified decisions including developing MAC operation system, developing iPad and so on. Apple’s success is originated from Job’s consistent leadership and cannot be achieved by a series of leaders even if every one of them could be as brilliant as Job is.
Moreover, it is unwise to require a principle to step down from the leadership after every five years because developing a school especially a university requires a long-term devotion, in some cases, even life time. To illustrate this, developing a university involves not only hiring staff members and recruiting students, but also building a brand name. Shenzhen University, which starts only 20 years ago, takes over 10 years to make itself known. If the principle of Shenzhen University is asked to be reappointed every 5 years as other profession do, their developing plan might be significantly interrupt.
In general, some professions should apply five-year tenure such as politics and government officials. However, it is not suitable for all the professions. Education and business may demand a longer tenure.
