    The speaker claims that the most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth. In reality, contemporary culture contains not just popular culture, part of which the youth could significantly represent, but also cultures about contemporary arts and living style. So it would be much better to take into research other elites in various fields of the society.

    It is undeniable that the youth, with their hopes to be different and energetic spirits, could partly present contemporary popular culture. 年青人不羁的性格，追求流行，包括发型、服装、穿戴、甚至言行、个人爱好，都要跟风跟从潮流，以体现自己的流行。

    With respect to contemporary arts, people should look up to contemporary artists rather than the youth. 当代艺术，是以当代艺术家为代表而体现的，其的作品，包括绘画、雕塑或摄影等，才是当代艺术的主流体现。

    To understand contemporary culture, one should necessarily analyze the living style of the mass carefully, the elites in particular. 饮食、衣着等消费文化，夜店、酒吧，以及各种高端俱乐部，形形色色的这些很能够体现当代艺术，而年青人往往都是消费能力有限的，还因为年龄问题而被禁止进入某些俱乐部等。

注意这道题里contemporary culture是一个大的概念
你在中间段里提到的contemporary popular culture和contemporary art 注意是单数 都属于下面的子概念
单数中间段第三段有出现了 contemporary art 就不妥了
这涉及到和前两个不并列的问题
另外题目提出要分析trends of its youth
你如果不同意 应该提出另一个和trends of its youth 相对应的对象 比如 trends of middle-aged people or trends of senior citizens/ elderly  而你提出的 contemporary artists似乎不是那么并列

Thesis: If we need to explore the contemporary culture of the youth, the most effective way is to analyze the trends of its youth. However, the trends of youth might not be as an effective indicator of contemporary middle-aged and senior culture as the trends of those two groups of people.

a.        年轻人是年轻人文化的主导者，因此分析年轻人的潮流趋势可以得到年轻文化的第一手信息。例子：Hip pop文化，滑板文化
2.        To understand the contemporary culture of the middle-aged people, analyzing the trends of the middle aged might be more effective than analyzing the trends of the youth.
a．        中年人是中年人文化的主导者，因此分析中年人的潮流趋势可以得到中年文化的第一手信息。 例子：中年人的政治商战电视剧电影文化,比如纸牌屋（house of cards）和电影华尔街（Wall Street），根据统计这些电视剧的主要收视人群为中年人，分析中年人的口味和趋势可以更好了解他们对当代中年文化的趋势。
b.        中年人跟年轻人的潮流有许多不同点：中年人不玩滑板，年轻人玩。中年人少玩电子游戏，而年轻人爱玩。
3.        To understand the contemporary culture of the seniors, analyzing the trends of the seniors might be more effective than analyzing the trends of the youth.
a.        老年人是老年人文化的主导者，因此分析老年人的潮流趋势可以得到中年文化的第一手信息。例子：中国老年人的广场舞文化和太极文化。英国老年人的下午茶文化。
b.        老年人跟年轻人的潮流有许多不同点：中国年轻人比较少打太极，老年人常打。根据统计，英国的年轻人生活节奏快，喝下午茶的习惯基本消失。大多老年人由于已经退休，拥有充足的时间每天享受下午茶。

我觉得按年龄分群体讨论是不错的思路
但是你的这个说法contemporary culture of the youth/ middle-aged/ elderly等等 不太经得起推敲
或许你需要在第一段解释你对contemporary culture的理解 将它细化为你后面提到的一些文化现象 hip hop; movie 等等 然后你可以指出某些文化活动 某个年龄段的人更多

我的思路：1，popular culture的确是contemporary culture 的一部分；2，如今全球化使得各地年轻人的特征和差异性愈发缺失，举例快餐、流行音乐逐渐趋同。3，contemporary culture还反映在许多别的方面，如信仰价值、政治、经济、文化、教育、科技等等。

讨论后的思路：1，年轻人倾向于电视、网络等媒介，相对之下，需要了解当代文学literature culture就需要更多地关注中年人；2，需要了解当代艺术fine art就需要更多地关注老年人，因为他们比较有钱有闲；3，statement中提出的trend趋势概念是研究大众，而相对的marginalized小众文化也是contemporary culture的内容，比如前卫的实验电影等。

规律和方法：提出跟题目中相对的概念，从反面论证。比如此题中， youth相对middle age& senior class以及trend相对marginalized
