Because the program's interviewer graduated from UNC, and she decides the whole admission.
The similarities between Chinese students enrolled in 2013, 2014 are (1) both Guanghua undergraduates (2) both high GPA (3) both exchange@UNC

嗷嗷，那funding是怎么决定的啊？全部看考试成绩吗？没有funding读博士真的会疯掉

应该是看最后的排名。我觉得可能有些outside funding可以考虑（像British council之类的吧，貌似要交一个proposal）。真到了那个地步跟老师聊一聊应该可以找到outside funding的source
