看了寄托上之前的帖子有解释这个题的，但还是有个疑问。comical为什么在这儿不能选呢？comical：causing laughter especially because of a startlingly or unexpectedly humorous impact 。wit：clever or apt humor 。这里不能对应起来吗？P’s wit would not be comcial had he lived in an era of prudishness?我能想到的可能的解释是因为文中说的是may not have been nearly as，也就是——也许甚至不能算是。就就是说这里表明P's wit在prudishness的时代甚至是连racy（一个比comical程度稍弱的词）都算不上的。 这么解释可以吗？
