2017 Mphill/Msc fin/eco

自报背景之前先跟gt上各位大神深鞠躬一发，欢迎大家提意见 m _ m：


申请：目测2016年下半年开始申请，即2017入学的program。

方向：经济
背景：cuhk本科，专业QFIN

GPA： 3.69/4.

gre: 329/340;

研究及交换经历：

论文：无发表论文。

个人目标：其实希望自己以后能读北美的phd，然而交换之后发现自己现在申请肯定是不够竞争力的，或许拼一拼，但成功几率肯定不大。所以目前打算是申mphil或者msc research或者ma做过渡阶段看看，而且想把一些有兴趣没能上的课补上，中宏高宏高微什么的，顺便再夯实一下编程基础。。。

啰嗦到现在，好了，现在问题来了：

不知道比起英国名校例如oxbridge，ucl，lse等等的program，cu 的mphil 对以后申请phd是更好还是如何？意思就是，如果以后要申请北美eco phd，cu的项目和英国这些项目比起来，就未来phd申请优势而言，差距大不大？

3）cu的mphil of finance 和mphil of economics哪个对于申请finance phd比较有帮助？
补充：跟教授聊后貌似是mphil of economics？

补充：这两天跟cu的教授聊了一下，觉得基本上定位选校已经搞定了，跟大家推荐的好像差不多。帖子不删，但是将某些没太多参考意义的信息（例如cu给分是个什么样的情况）删掉了，方便大家阅读，希望以后能起到帮助。话说非常感谢诸位大神~瞬间清醒了很多呀！！

我只想说应该叫Financial Economics 而不是 Economy
只有政治经济学叫作Political Economy 其它都写成XX Economics

1. if you have minored mathematics and economics, I will assume you have most of the followings:
intermediate micro, macro, and a couple of econ topic course in addition.
also some applied mathematics course like numerical analysis, and differential eqn, and optim.

If really for PhD, consider real analysis, and stochastic calculus if you don't have that yet.
If I were you, i will take some more adv. math & stat course in UG instead of adv economics course as these adv. economics course are going to be done in master anyway.

2. I guess you will have a reasonable good shot for the MPhil in economics / finance in your own school. (but not 100% safe).
Normally they need a first hon for getting into MPhil, but I guess your GPA is high enough to be comparable with those first honour student in other department/program so things should be fine.
I guess you will be interested in the MPhil in the stat and SEEM department too if you are also interested in QF in additional to FE.

3. [put aside PR concern]
UK: I guess Oxford MPhil economics, LSE EME, Fina & Econ will be stronger than CUHK MPhil, may also Cambridge MPhil and UCL MSc Economics.
Not that sure for Warwick as they have a really big class for MSc. I will forget the rest. (except for safety)
US: have a look in Columbia MSc Financial Economics, Duke MA economics, not sure about MIT MFin.

I will say the Oxford MPhil, LSE EME / Fina & Econ are one of the best master in the world in preparing for a PhD in financial economics........so you need some safety school in you application list.

CUHK的grading真的太严格了，英国一些比较好的项目（OX MPHIL, LSE EME）可能最后会con 1st class

此外，并不是说进了某个master项目就能确定定位，同一个master项目内学生的方差经常是很大的，关键还是看自己：就算在港科MSC ECON这样的项目的话，也有人能够申请到YALE

很早之前的，已经博士毕业了
那个项目要读博的话大多数都在HK啦
