Buffalo和Brandeis的计算语言学AD，哪家强呀~

不知道有没有前辈了解这两所学校在CL上实力对比如何呢？个人计划毕业后在美国工作几年，不知道哪个学校的更好？Buffalo名气大，Brandeis版里几乎无人提起，不过给一年2W的小奖，项目领头人的理论我也用过，感觉挺亲切……不知道怎么抉择啊~~

Buffalo的MS in CL是今年新开的，语言系专门搞CL的老师John Pate也是去年新招的。他人很好，就是课有些难。下学期他有个seminar，内容如下：

Interpreting approximate inference in natural language models

In 1982, David Marr argued that cognitive systems should be understood at three levels of analysis. At the computational level, we formalize the problem the system solves; at the algorithmic level, we compare different ways of solving that problem; and at the implementation level, we explore how the algorithm may be implemented in neural circuitry.

Computational models for natural language typically seek to address the computational level. However, the space of natural language analyses is so large that exact inference is usually intractable, and we must resort to approximate algorithms when evaluating computational models. Because different approximate algorithms may exhibit different behavior with the same model, some of our results may be due to the approximation rather than the model, clouding our attempt to target the computational level of analysis. In this seminar, we will explore several different families of approximate inference algorithms and consider how their use should affect our interpretation of models for natural language.
