关于advanced standing

很多人都提到LLM转JD会错过1L的OCI. 想问一下advanced standing会不会影响1L的OCI呢？寄托上翻了很久都没有找到相关的信息，不知道有没有知道的人能回答一下。

For those who have earned an LL.M. degree from another ABA-accredited law school, a maximum of one year's advanced standing may be granted so that the Juris Doctor (J.D.) could be completed in less time than the usual three years.  In order to receive the J.D., all students must be in residence for two years of law study as a J.D. candidate.  Typically, students who have completed an LL.M. would take the first-year foundation courses along with the entering class and subsequently take advanced courses in the following year to complete the J.D. degree.   

按正常思维，既然转过去是和一年级学生一起上课，那么和他们一共在暑假OCI就顺理成章。不过还是需要再写信跟学校核实一下。而且这个理解即使正确，也只适合哥伦比亚，其他学校不清楚。

关于OCI，收到哥大回信：

Thank you for your interest in Columbia Law School.   

Transfer students are eligible to take part in the Office of Career Services’ Early Interview Program (EIP) for 2L summer associate positions, which occurs on August 4, 5, 8, and 9. In order to participate fully in this program, transfer students must be admitted to the Law School at least one week prior to the start of the program. Admitted transfer applicants must also submit their deposit to the Office of Admissions prior to their participation in EIP. Once these conditions are met, newly admitted transfer students will be able to participate in the program along with the rest of the rising 2L class.

Furthermore, transfer students are not eligible for merit-based scholarships but are able to apply for financial aid.  For more information regarding financial aid for transfer students, please visit the following link: Financial Aid for Transfer and Visiting Students.

Thank you for the information. I have two additional questions.

1) Since an advanced-standing student at Columbia Law who earned an LLM degree at another law school takes 1L courses along with the entering class, he or she will not miss the 1L summber OCI, although for him or her it's actually 2L summber at law schools?

2) Do advanced-standing applicants have opportunites of scholarship at the same footing with regular applicants? Regular applicants could be granted a three-year package and advanced standing applicants granted a two-year package of scholarship?

这其中有个问题，他说的2L summer的EIP是我理解的1L结束之后紧接着的那个暑假(算作是2L的开头），还是2L结束后的那个暑假？

可是既然跟1L一起上第一年的基础课（对LLM来说是在法学院的第二年了），按理应该可以跟他们参加1L结束之后那个暑假的OCI啊，那时那些必修课成就不都有了吗？还有多余的。

LLM学分只能转重合的一部分剩下的基础课还是要重新上的吧

基本上可以说不能参加1L的OCI。现在只是疑惑为什么，但结果已经确定。

基本上是这样。不过，听大神JD@UVA的说法，如果转学录取决定能早日收到，还是有机会赶上OCI。但是我觉得也许他这个不够精确吧。前面我给你发过哥大的回信，在八月六日到九日之前可以赶那个IEP什么的，感觉跟1L的OCI好像没法比。

如果想在美国找工作，还是重新申请1L然后再找学校谈转学分的事比较好。1L的OCI看来赶上的可能性很小，时间上看得上学校也不一定让你参加。就算参加了，LLM没有基础课程或者不足，OCI面试方都不好确定你的成绩属于哪个水平，自然是默认为没完成课程，根本无法跟正常的1L竞争。
