201 “The purpose of education should be to provide students with a value system, a standard, a set of ideas---not to prepare them for a specific job.”

The topic above addresses the question,”What is education for?” No doubt on their own campuses students have listened in on discussions of this topic in one form or another, and no doubt many jave govem their own educational goals considerable thought. In broad terms, the question can be posed this way: Is education an opportunity for personal growth and general intellectual development? Or is it a means to economic advancement? Personally, I believe educaion should foster both general improvement over values as well as ideas and professional specialization, and it should do so in a proper proportion.

One of the defining characteristics that distinguish education from professional technique training programs is that it offers its targeted objects with the great opportunity to learn to be qualified citizens, which call for specific professional skills and, more importantly, a well-developed personality including a value system of the universe and the society, a standard to diffentiate between right and wrong, justice and prejudice, a set of truly innovative ideas, an ability to feel the beauty and essence of the nature and other qualities such as openmindedness and interpersonal skills. Therefore, during the whole process of education, ever from the first day of elementary school, till the commencement of the Doctor of Philosophy, character education should be taken as a highly important, if not the mose important, element constituting the word “education”.

Secondly, like a supermarket, education provides different materials and products for different customers (the students) with different educational goals. My former principal once said (and I paraphrase): “You cannot afford to think of being here to receive an education; you will do much better to think of themselves as being here to claim one.”This demonstrates that the influence that interactivity and personal demands place over education can never be overlooked if the students wish to gain the biggest output from education. Both soly professional training and well-round individual perfection should be available to students during the school years.

Admittedly, in this era of modern socilization which places noticable focus on human capitalization and rapid individual shaping and promotion, education sometimes functions as its certain parts, special technique training courses as a case in point, rather than as a wholesome unity. In this sense, education offers highly effective methods and approaches that can turn into easy and efficient application in occupation and lead to better control over one’s work, which sounds appealing enough to many as to consider only this part of education. On one hand, it attracts more people back to the classroom to accummulate knowledge as well as useful skills and techniques and makes up an indispensable part of modern education for education itself is meant to stimulate students to gain something new, no matter in physical or psychological dimensions. However, in the long run, this trend may possibly lead to the loss and ignorance of the basic essence of education.

Worldwidely, citizens have always been passionate about issues related to education. For one thing, education issues affect every citizen in a personal way. Many pursue with a passion the ideal of “education for all” both as a means of self-improvement and as a source of enlightened citizenry required by democratic institutions. Therefore, we may safely draw the conclusion here that education is a noun that is always in its plural form; it can functions to its full capacity when and only when the two factors, both theoretical and practical, are well combined.

一个not but题目 立意在both上面 是个比较普通的做法 各段的论证也还不很完善 例如组成b1的两个长句
文笔上面虽然有些细节不够注意 但是整体来看还是有参考价值的
