Issue169
Those who treat politics and morality as thought they were separate realms fail to understand either one or the other.
I fundamentally agree with the speaker's conclusion that politics and morality are not mutually exclusive. Politics are based on two kinds of moral criterion(是不是应该指出哪两种criterion) in order to further the public’s ultimate interests, especially for politicians. We cannot understand either of them by treats them as separate realms.(后两句话之间好像没什么关系,感觉不连贯)
To begin with, to understand the real notions and relationships of politics and morality, it is best to illustrate them in the politicians –the people who are actively or professionally engaged in politics. When we concern the morality of the politicians, we must distinguish the two types of morality in the politicians: the "general morality" in private life and the "political majority(写错了吧?还是我没理解?)” in political life. The general morality is the moral standard for the politicians in their private life, which require complete forthrightness and candidness in dealings with others but nothing related to the political duty they serve; The political majority is the moral standard which politicians must hold in political activities, and meet the ultimate interests of the public by using any kinds of methods, even lie or cheat the public.(文字很流畅,明了。不过感觉上只摆出了定义,好像没有论证,也没说明什么,我觉得考试的时候,这样一大段如果只为后文作铺垫有点奢侈,时间毕竟有限呀。)
First of all, the “general morality” is the basic moral standard for the politicians in their private life. In the public’s eyes, it is even the most important standard for the politicians – which seriously influence their political reputations. It is easy to see that people treat the politicians --especially leaders -- as moral model of our society, which require them complete forthrightness and candidness in dealings with others but nothing related to the political duty they serve.(这句好,感觉which后的从句和前面有些散。要是我就写成单句,不过因为我不敢写长句,呵呵) President Bill Clinton is well accepted by his successful economic, diplomacy and education policies, but under the storm of Zipper Gate, he was censured as the terrible private morality. Despite they must hold the "political morality", they should be in high morality in their private life. The private life and the political life are totally different realms of politics. (例子很好,强有力的说明观点)
Secondly, the “political morality” is the moral standard which politicians must hold in political activities, and to meet the ultimate interests of the public by using any kinds of the methods. That means the morality of politics is different from the individual’s morality. Politicians must be responsible to the people who elected them, serve the public’s interests and wishes, so that they cannot be always honest and frankly. For instance, President Ronald Reagan once claimed to the public that US government had never use weapons to exchange hostages with Iran. However, 4 mouths later, president himself admitted that he had lied to the public.(举出了例子但是没说明问题,我觉得应该把后面的解释前移到这边) Also, President George Bush asserted that patriot missile air defense system was successfully destroyed 43 Iraq missiles of 44 which toward Israel. Nevertheless, the fact is that only 3 Iraq missiles were destroyed. It does not mean that Reagan and Bush are dishonest, but because they are under the responsibility to keep secret – and even lie to the public -- to meet their nation’s ultimate interests. Reagan must keep the secret during the possess of hostages exchange in order to ensure the safety of hostages; Bush must give the false fact in order to avoid panic of the civilians in Israel. Therefore, the criterion to value politicians is not general morality, but the “political morality” – whether meet the public or nation’s ultimate interests.(例子很恰当,论证也不错)
In sum, politics, especially politicians, must hold on two distinct kinds of morality that in order to further the public’s ultimate interests. To understand the real notions and relationships between politics and morality, we must treat them as interconnect realms. (583 words)
(你的语言很不错,比我的强,我一张口就是那几句话,不过这道题的偷梁换柱的写法看不出结构上的东西,就是认为你第一段的解释太多, 不过这也许是偷梁换柱的代价吧。)
