虽然这个学校被大家一再贬低,但是我还是来了。今年秋季我申请到了它的商学院John Molson School of Business 的MIS硕士。在与学校打交道的这几次和在Montreal呆的这几天的感受中,多少形成了点对学校的认识,趁着还没有开学有时间的时候写点学校的东西吧,希望对大家有用。
首先,学校是两个校区,一个是Sir George Williams Campus,应当是主校区,一个是Loyola campus,是分校区。学校分四个部分,John Molson School of Business, Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science,和Faculty of Fine Arts.学校学生校方公布的是30000,其中留学生是3600。前三个部分主要在主校区,后一个一般在Loyola校区。因为相距比较远,所以有来往的班车。
主校区的主要建筑是3座,Hall Building,Library Building,和John Molson School of Business。
Concordia English Language Proficiency Test (CELDT)
DESCRIPTION
The Concordia English Language Diagnostic Test (CELDT) is a test which measures your English language proficiency. The test consists of two parts:
Part I of the CELDT is a standardized objective proficiency test covering formal aspects of language knowledge.
· There are 100 multiple-choice questions in this part of the test: 40 grammar, 40 vocabulary, and 20 reading comprehension. There is a 75-minute time limit to complete Part I of the CELDT. The test score is reported as a numeric score between 0-500, where 500 represents a perfect score. The test score reported is an equated score and not a percent age score.
· To prepare for this part of the test, you may want to work with one or more of the books listed in the reference list below. (Part I of the CELDT is similar to Part 3 of the Michigan Test (MELAB). TOEFL practice books are also very useful. Especially those parts dealing with structure and written expression, and vocabulary and Reading comprehension.)
· When working with TEOFL or Michigan practice books, remember, the CELDT does not include a listening test.
Part II of the CELDT is a pragmatic task (performance test), which requires performance on a writing task.
· You will be given a choice of three topics. You will be asked to write 400 words explaining and supporting your own point of view on one of the topics. There is a 75-minute time limit to complete Part II of the CELDT.
· The test is scored on an operationally defender scale from 0-5, where 0 is the lowest score and 5 indicates that the candidate’s writing skills are similar to those of a native speaker. A more detailed description of the scores is given below.
· Part II of the CELDT is not the same as the TOEFL Test of Written English (TWE) or the Michigan Test, Part I (Composition Test). However, any advice relating to Reading and writing given in TOEFL and Michigan practice books would be useful to help you prepare for Part II of the CELDT.
The two parts of the CELDT are scored independently. That is, the candidate receives a score for Part I (0-500) and a separate score for Part 11 (0-5). The two scores are combined (using specially developed algorithm) and an overall assessment level is determined. Based on this overall assessment level, appropriate ESL courses are recommended.
