With the development of television and computer connections, people now can easily get the information about many places that they have never visited. However, it does not suggest that tourism will soon become obsolete as the speaker claims.
First of all, what we get from a personal journey is much more than the information obtained from television programs or internet. A real tour provides us vivid 3-dimensional feelings from all the sense organs rather than a small picture limited by the size of the screen. For example, the pleasure of snow skiing in the Swiss Alps or breathing in Scottish Highland cannot be enjoyed just by sitting in front of a television. Only after climbing the Great Wall with sweat all over the body can a tourist really understand the meaning of an old Chinese saying "Conquering the Great Wall makes a man a hero". Also, a heart-to-heart conversation with folk people during a trip will give tourists cherished memory about the native culture. I had read a lot of articles about Huang Mountain before I visited it this summer. When I stood at the top of the Lotus Peak seeing all the cloud below, smelling the air and listening to the wind, I found that the Huang Mountain which I have seen on television is not the live one before my eyes then. In addition, the information on television or Internet is limited by the opinions of the photographers and editors, while in a real tour people can make their own decisions according to their wish and enjoy the journey with a free mind.
Secondly, information about great places on television or internet makes tourists easier and more convenient to plan and enjoy the tour. It can be proven by the increasing number of tourists around us. In the past, a reason why fewer people go for tour is the limitation of the information. Thus people do not know whether a place is worth visiting and hesitate in spending money on the trip. Now, much information about nearly all the places can be found on television or internet. According to the information people can choose the most suitable places based on their hobbies, economic condition and so on. Also, no one would like to start a tour on a storming day, so people could check the weather on the television before they move out. And tourists can book hotels or buy train tickets through internets and get rid of lot of unnecessary troubles. In addition, people can read some relative information before they go to some great places. If they visit some historical places, enough preparation will make the trip more meaningful.
Furthermore, television and internet play a vital role in the development of some tourism places. One example is the development of the tourism of Huaxi village, a small and unknown village in Jangsu Province of China twenty years ago. After the significant economic development was reported in television programs, Huaxi village had become the focus of people’s interests and attract tourists all over the nation every year.
To sum up, although people can easily get information about great places from television and worldwide computer connections, the difference between visiting a place personally and watching it from television or internet determining that tourism will not be obsolete. On the contrary, the convenience of television and worldwide computer connections accelerate the booming of tourism.
