Issue146  第6篇 让砖头来得更猛烈些吧!

------题目------
People who are the most deeply committed to an idea or policy are the most critical of it.

------正文------
The speaker’s assertion seems paradoxical at first glance, because common sense tells us that commitment and criticism are mutual exclusive in most cases. However, careful consideration will reveal that the opinion is reasonable even undeniable. People with great commitment to an idea are those who are most critical to them.

First of all, people deeply committed to an idea or policies are the persons who are most familiar with it. Before believing in an idea or policy, one has to know the essence of it at first. It is absurd to consider someone enthusiastic for some ideas even if he or she knows nothing about them. Therefore, people have more opportunities to access to what they are committed than laypeople. They are aware of where the flaws and deficiencies lie in the idea or policy and what needed to be improved. For example, when quantum mechanism was first brought forward, Einstein rejected it, because he believed that quantum mechanism flew in the face of Relativity. Maybe at that time, except for Einstein, there were no others who can really understand both the mechanism and principles of relativity. Nevertheless, Einstein was so critical to his belief that he spent his whole later life questioning it and struggle to reconcile quantum mechanism with principles of relativity.

Second, people with greatest commitment to an idea or policy are the persons who are most eager to improve it. For example, all the parents love their kids most. At the same time, parents are most critical to their children and most sensitive to the wrong behaviors of them. In other words, people criticize something because they like them and wish them to be better, while people who are not interested in one thing might pay little attention to the deficiencies in it. There is a Chinese saying: “The deeper you love it, the more you blame on it.” Another example is Lu Xun, one of Chinese   patriotic writers in the 20th century. In some of his works, he seriously pointed out several deficiencies rooted in the characteristics of Chinese people. Did he betray his patriotic belief which he was committed to? The answer is absolutely not. In fact, he loved his nation too much to ignore any defect which prevents it to be more powerful and prosperous.

Moreover, psychological research suggests that most people prefer finding out flaws in their favorite things by themselves rather than letting others criticize them. For instance, in foot games, it is common that the fans complain the poor performance of their favorite team with some rough words. But if the words come from the fans of the opponents, they might be dissatisfied, even irritated. Therefore it is human’s nature to criticize their favorite things first and reject the criticism from others.

To sum up, commitment and criticism are not incompatible. From the analysis above, we know that people who are most committed to an idea or policy are both capable and eager to criticize the idea or policy. So, there arrives the conclusion that people who are the most deeply committed to an idea or policy are the most critical of it.

Maybe at that time, except for Einstein, there were no others who can really understand both the mechanism and principles of relativity. The answer is absolutely not. In fact, he loved his nation too much to ignore any defect which prevents it to be more powerful and prosperous. [经典例证!]

Moreover, psychological research suggests that most people prefer finding out flaws in their favorite things by themselves rather than letting others criticize them. For instance, in foot [football吧?] games, it is common that the fans complain the poor performance of their favorite team with some rough words. But if the words come from the fans of the opponents, they might be dissatisfied, even irritated. Therefore it is human’s nature to criticize their favorite things first and reject the criticism from others. [相关吗?仿佛远了点]

To sum up, commitment and criticism are not incompatible. From the analysis above, we know that people who are most committed to an idea or policy are both capable and eager to criticize the idea or policy. So, there arrives the conclusion that people who are the most deeply committed to an idea or policy are the most critical of it.

Life is full of drama.

critical=inclined to judge severely and find fault

body 1 and 2 try to convince us the two reasons of the issue
the example and analysis in body 2 is appropriate as well as insightful, very good~
I see the meaning in this paragraph1 is that :since people most concerned and committed to  an idea , might understand the issue most deeply and comprehensively, it is natural that they are the right people to find the fault in their beloved idea. But the reason in body 1 seem not clear enough.
anyway, good work!
