In this practical and competitive world and technological change leading to increasing life complexity and psychological displacement, both positive and negative effects among person (people) call for a balance in which there are both pragmatic and idealistic views.  For one thing, being practical is essential to one's survival, (and) yet ideals give us a direction in pursuit of success.

Admittedly, there is no doubt that we always take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view, in the face of emergencies which need immediate solutions.  History and common sense inform us that when encountering hazards such as wars, contagious diseases, natural disasters, it is wise for people to put all their efforts to tackle the existing problems.  No one was still in the dream of his/her ideals due to the strong will of survival.  For example, in the disaster of tsunamis on the west coast of the Indian Ocean, more than 150 thousand people lost their lives in the catastrhophy, and even more lost their home and can only be kept their living by the little sustenance provided by the government after this ground sea.  In this case, any government should undoubtedly take practical action in order to save more people’s lives as well as prevent possible epidemics such as diarrhea, hepatitis, typhoid etc.  Therefore, it is necessary to make sure the road under our feet is safe enough so that we could go even further.

Ideal, is like the light at the end of the road, without which we are easily to lose hope and got lost in the process of seeking progress and success.  Looking around, we can see so many examples who choose to commit crime or select suicide simply because they lose ideals to live. Besides, it should be admitted that many people lost their way in the long run for their ideals: Perhaps, the original ideal for some people to make money is to help the hunger and the poor in Africa, who are still struggling on the line between survival and death.  But without solid adherece to their ideals, very few remember this, even lost themselves and become money-oriented, those people can of little use for the whole society except money-making machines.
  
Without ideals, however, the human society would have been likely to remain the same from one era to the next without significant developments in that humans seem naturally inclined to be satisfied with the status quo.   In fact, it is just a piece of cake for clever humans to solve the immediate problems, but that should not be the end.  In order to achieve more and make progressive in the long run, we must keep the ideal in our heart and strive to attain it.  Take our common experience for instance; flying freely in the vast sky with the help of airplanes, landing on the moon by the aid of space shuttles, making contact with your family across the Pacific through the cable of telephone, however, without ideals in the past, we cannot get so progressed as today.  Similarily, without ideals at present, our nowadays dreams of space travel, micro-robot capable of detecting and curing diseases in human body and the like can never become reality.  It is by the ideals produced by the creative minds that we human beings have achieved, and will attain great improvement from the past to the future.

More important, however, is that we must take effective efforts to solve the existing problems as well as turn the ideals into practice.  Since both the two to society are the same as two eyes to human and both worth our attention,  without any side, our human race is on the verge of extinction, what we should do is to take measures right now after weighing the two sides considerably.  As Larry, a famous historian and professors in my university once put it (and I paraphrase). "In order for whether scientists, businessmen, artists or politicians to attain success, judicious judgment on the balance of ideals and practice is of great significance, but not sufficient, the key ingredient to the success of any field is the practice of action."  What he said aptly illustrates this point that only through actual efforts can we turn whatever idealistic or pragmatic views into actions.

To sum up, it is undeniable fact that practical ideas have the immediate contribution to society.  Nevertheless, idealistic ideas are the long-term practical ideas without which people would be too shortsighted to achieve future success.  And we also should be wary that neither the ideas of practical nor idealistic can make the society progressed, what change the world and kindle the revolution of human beings are also in need of the sweaty efforts.

我倒觉得ideal和idealistic差不多，这篇文章没怎么跑题吧。

但是我觉得海啸的例子和整个body1是不是太特殊了，在平时的生活中也需要practical 吧
body2那个挣钱的例子写的好像不太好。

后面几段没什么大的问题，但是语言的表达上，句子的结构上面还需要加强啊。
