Issue 12 People's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surroundings than by any internal characteristic.

One’s attitude, which is formed gradually and over extended periods of time, is generally defined as the means or positions he or she takes to deal with matters especially in certain situations. It is complicated and affected by the person’s internal characteristics and his immediate situation and surroundings as well.

One’s internal characteristic is an essential factor in shaping his attitude. An optimistic and a pessimistic people, for instance, will perform very differently in a predicament. When an optimistic people failed in doing something 100 times, he may tell himself:” I learn much from these failures. I believe that I will be successful in the next time.” However the pessimistic one may be frustrated absolutely and tell himself:” My god! I failed again! I can never be successful! The only choice for me is to give up!” Furthermore, insisting on and giving up may affect the people’s later life routine greatly. One who is always adhering to strive for his or her goals is tend to gain more successes than those ones who are likely to give up when there is even subtle difficulty. And of course, more successes and more frustrations affect people’s attitudes in thoroughly contrast ways. More successes may make people more and more optimistic. However, more frustrations are likely to leading people to a vicious circle of pessimism.  

Moreover, it is apparently that people performance in thoroughly different ways in different situations. A severe politician may be lively when he is playing with children. A woman who is successful and seems strong and independent in her career may present in completely contrary ways when facing her lover. My own experience on a New Year’s Celebration demonstrates such phenomena well. It is a hectic evening. People are crowded in the hall and there is not any vacant seat. The storming applauses inflame the curiosity in all people who didn’t get a good position to watch the performances. In order to watch the stage, some students abandon so-called “gentle presence”. They climbed up and stood on the desks, jumped and acclaimed with their all enthusiasm. In such hectic atmosphere, a toneless voice sounded to me:” Ah! Things changed”. I turn to the person who is speaking. It is my teacher who graduated just a few months ago. He was at a loss then. I am curious about his strange and depressive expression. “Come on! What happened, sir?” He said, “ Things has been changed! The party arouses my memory of my university life. I am a naughty boy then, like the students standing on the desks. I ever did everything like they are doing now! I ever stood on desks. I ever put off my all clothes and sway them to the actors. I ever expressed my love publicly to a sweet girl in front of her dormitory. If I were a student today, I will stand on the desks too. But I cannot do that now. Because I am a teacher now! I must maintain my good appearance.” His words reveal that different surroundings decide people’s attitude and performance at certain circumstances.
Furthermore, the immediate situation or surroundings play a vital role in shaping one’s attitude as well. The vogue of the society, people around him, the education he accepted, etc. are inevitably influence his attitudes obviously. Children who are spoiled by their parents may be presumptuous and vulnerable when they encounter to difficulties in their life. What is more, they may be accustomed to depend on their parents in any case. Therefore they may present lacking of independence when he grows older. However, children are raised by strict parents and are always demanded to accomplish their own business by themselves may present apparently independent personality and sound ability especially in emergent accidents.

In a word, people’s internal characteristic is a crucial factor in determining their attitudes. However, as social animal---so called by a philosopher, people are inevitably influenced by their contemporary societies and people. As a result, their immediate situation or surroundings play a vital role in determining their attitudes as well.

snowman说的immediate的问题，我认为immediate有紧密的意思，所一我理解成和他密切相关的成长环境

至于blur 的建议2 ，我认为是可能 blur和snowman对immediate的理解一样，和我的理解不一样。我的前面一段讲的是一个人在不同的情况下 的表现， 后面一段讲的是和他密切相关的环境对他的性格形成的影响。 侧重有所不同的。不过感觉这两段可能可以用某中手段柔和成一段
