As part of the superstructure, politics fully serves economics, to establish and maintain a peaceful and stable social environment in order to assure the development of economics should be the ideal goal of politics. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve the ideal, so the search for common ground and reasonable consensus is too often become the ultimate solution of political issues.

The primary goal of politics should be an ideal, which provides a clear direction for the whole nation as well as defines the nature of all other social activities. The goal varies according to countries based on different political principles: for socialized countries, the aim of politics is to achieve communism and fight for interests of the majority of people; while for capitalized countries, the aim becomes to achieve freedom and equality and fight for interests of capitalists. Without the consideration of distinct class interest, the nature of the political goal remains the same, that is to achieve an ideal social state according to their comprehension that can best serve the economical construction. Without such an ideal as the goal, the political activity and even the whole society will lose the long term direction to go and the impetus to progress.

Considering that politics deals with most practical issues and often pressing emergencies, moreover, it unavoidably interacts with all other aspects of society, so it is impossible to achieve the ideal result in short time, in this sense, the search for common ground and reasonable consensus is often turns out to be an ultimate goal for the case in point. A city's mayor once said (and I paraphrased): the biggest difference between a mayor and a college principal is the way of dealing and handling problems, the political issue needs more compromise and too often the aim is to search for a reasonable consensus rather than for the most desired ideal solution, whereas in academic world pursuing for the perfect is always the goal. Compromising with each other is the most common phenomenon in the ever-changing international politics, when negotiating military conflicts or business trade between nations, both parts want the most benefit, but the only solution is to dissolve into compromise and finally reach common ground and reasonable consensus.

Although the search for common ground and reasonable consensus is always the practical solution or ultimate result of political issues, the primary goal of politics should be to achieve an ideal to best serve the development of economics. It is short-sighted to locate the aim of politics at searching for consensus or in other words----moment success, for compromising is only an expediency underlying many potential problems that cannot dissolve all contradictions in essential. The pursuit of an ideal should be the primary goal to guide these reluctant compromise and all aspects of politics toward the clear direction, the search for common ground and consensus is necessary measures to achieve the ideal goal, and only in this sense, the search is of significance.

To sum up, the goal of politics should be the pursuit of an ideal, whereas the search for common ground and consensus is necessary ways to achieve the final goal.
