The speaker claims that only through mistakes can there be discovery or progress. I concede that mistake is an important role that leads to discovery or progress .However, in my view, there are other equally necessary factors as I will discuss below

admittedly, on the way to success, mistakes play an important part because mistakes is in a sense another kind of knowledge and experience which always can tell a person more than he could learn from books or classes. when we were an infant, we learn how to walk by falling down again and again , when we gradually grow up, we gain social experiences by committing all kinds of errors .It is just through the endless mistakes that we are growing to a strong man. Thus ,in this means, I would rather point out that without mistakes, we cannot achieve great success.

However, it is not enough just to learn from mistakes if one want to succeed. It is too often that we see persons make mistakes again and again and yet make little progress until he grows too old. What's the reason? The answer is in each endeavor, some basic requirements should be satisfied besides mistakes, either in science or in political arena. In science, an academic atmosphere and tradition as well as the instrument for experiment is the two fundamental demand which sometimes is more important than mistakes. This can be easily understood if we take a look at the list of Nobel prize receiver, most of them come from famous labs which bears a good condition. In politics and government, a basic morality standard are always in need. Take Nixon, the former American president, for example, before he carry the election, he failed twice, yet he learned from his mistakes and finally succeeded. Ironically, he was forced to abdicate for his dishonesty in the water gate scandal. This aptly illustrated how other equally important factors influence the achievement of discovery and progress.

Furthermore, if not so strictly confined, discovery and progress can also be achieved by accident. This can be readily observed if we just take a rough look at the human history and especially the development of science. See how x-ray is discovered, see how continental drift theory was formed ,see how the element periodic table was set up, see how the penicillin was successfully obtained, see how the structure of benzene is established. Though it is quite possible that they had made mistakes before, no one can deny that their last success has litter bearing with their former failures and errors. Instead, they own their accomplishment to opportunity and chance.

In sum, from what we have discussed above, we come to the conclusion that besides mistakes ,there are other necessary factors such as the that affect the final result.Only we take accound all of them can we make real discoveries and progress.otherwise,it is quite likely we make the same mistakes again and again without any improvement.

写的很好，语言上的功底很佩服
第一遍看完觉得很有道理，但是越看觉得越不对。
题目的意思是 发现和进步免不了要犯错误，不是说错误是进步的唯一决定因素。
所以反对题目，可以举没犯错误就获得成功的例子，而不是举除了mistake之外获得进步的原因吧。估计没人会觉得犯了错误就一定会进步吧

我也觉得原题从逻辑上讲只是在说mistake 是success的必要条件，并没有说是充分加必要条件
而你论述其他必要条件，给人感觉和题目在逻辑上没有冲突，但好像和题目本身关系不密切
可能有点多余
