I disagree with the speaker that pragmatic behavior is not the only way to succeed. In my opinion, however, taking a practical point of view, which respects the objectivities and responds to the changeable situations around, is really more important for us to accomplish achievements than only holding idealism to pursue unpractical and faraway goals, although sometimes idealistic points of view should be maintain in our hearts.

To begin with, pragmatic behavior and strategy enables us to acquire more comprehensive consideration of things and shape our aims more precisely according to the objective conditions around us than does idealistic performance, both of which would undoubtedly improve the ratio of successes. Without considering in pragmatic method, the ideal would fail to come out. For example, as well as we knows, "Utopia" comes from the idealistic urban designs advocated by some idealists in 17th century. R. Owen, a leader of them, formed a project named "new village of harmony", which was assumed to be a place: in this area, no crimes, no anxieties, no evils; there, citizens would just work on farm, build houses by their own hands, make tools for production, and even without trade and business to outside world! At first, the dramatic project did attract many people to join and live there. Unfortunately, less than one year later, this dream broke up. Apparently, the idealists ignored the most crucial factors to a city, objective conditions of economy and productivity, which could hardly meet the requirement of self-support. Thus, subsequent urban designers became more practical than before. At the beginning, they reconsidered and analyzed the realities of that time, and then, found the significance of trade and business between different regions and the key role of industry rather than farm and crafts. Differing from the former idealists, these pragmatists tended to make simpler options to resolve the various problems in front of the facts. As a result, the practical ways brought out much more effectiveness than the realistic solutions.

Other than the advantage mentioned above, another positive role of pragmatic methods lies in that we could form and modify our strategies and ways responding to the changeability of the surrounding circumstances, which are seldom calculated by idealists. There is nothing unchangeable in the world. For instance, Wal-Mart, one of most famous supermarkets in the world, ten years ago, encountered some obstacles when progressing to Asia market .The chief of Wal-Mart had planned to uniform the worldwide sale prices of merchandise as well as Asia. The aftereffects of this project in the last year, however, indicated a increasingly decrease of the total amount of the sale in Asia, because the crisis of finance diminished the capacity of consumption largely. Then, Wal-Mart determined to alter the original strategy and reduced the prices to meet the factual consumption abilities of Asians regardless of business profits designed ideally. As a reward, the loss of Wal-Mart was much less than that of other supermarkets, and later, Wal-Mart won more new consumers than ever before. Imagine, how much harm would Wal-Mart suffered if without making immediate choices and modifying the strategy practically. In this case of business, it is practical behavior rather than so-called idealistic views leads people to succeed.

Of course, I have to admit that idealistic points of view benefit people somewhat in shaping a beautiful dream, but the fact is that there are lots of factors effecting success beyond people's original dreams, and meanwhile, there is nothing unchangeable in the process of pursuing achievements. It is pragmatism that endows people with not only comprehensive consideration and precise aims according to objective conditions, but flexible strategies responding changeable situations. In the final analysis, in most realm of life, pragmatism is more crucial for people to achieve successes than idealism.

although and however用在了一个句子里，读起来感觉有点怪怪的，呵呵，可能自己读太少了。

个人认为，这个题目比较长，包括的方面也比较多，academic, social, business, or political，楼主最好能够也涉及一下academic and political可能会更好些。建议把b1,2压缩一下，加上academic or political 写成大正小负型。
