WM,admire: to regard with admiration
admiration:1.an object of esteem2.delighted or astonished approbation
244"Most societies do not take their greatest thinkers seriously, even when they claim to admire them."
Since the human society came into being, greatest thinkers have contributed a lot to the development of it. Therefore, Aristotle, Socrates, Newton, Einstein, all of their achievements are remembered by the society; and they, at the same time, are respected by people. In short, it is obvious that greatest thinkers are the most vital component of the society, and they are respected by the whole world.
First of all, let us turn to the ancient time. Aristotle, the most famous philosopher in the ancient Greece, is a good example. Aristotle considered both the inner world of the human and the natural mysteries in the world, and discovered many principles, which not only contributed to the development of science of the ancient time, but are beneficial to contemporary society. Therefore, he wasboth respected by people in his times and by people nowadays. He had nearly the most students in his times, and his principles were thought as axioms for thousands of years. He is now considered as the progenitor of the philosophy and natural science. His thoughts are researched by many people all over the world. There are his statues in many places of the world, which indicate that he is respected by people all over the world. Generally speaking, he is admired by both the ancient people and the current people. Thinking that an ancient thinker is so popular in the world, it is unfair to claim that the society do not take their greatest thinkers seriously.
Einstein, another illustration, can demonstrate that in the contemporary world, our society considers more about the thinkers, due to the need of the development of itself. Einstein was one of the most successful scientists in the 20th century, who discovered the theory of relativity. What does his theory bring to us? The answer is the explanations of many puzzles that cannot be solved for many years, the development of technology, and the improvement of the out-space exploration. Because of these contributions, Einstein was respected by both people and government: many universities invited him to be honorary professor; he won Nobel Prize, which is the highest honor of a scientist; his suggestion was considered by the president of the USA when he made decision on developing nuclear weapon. From my angle, Einstein was admired and will be honored forever.
Admittedly, there are indeed many greatest thinkers not accepted by the society in the history. However, their unacceptance is due to the following reasons, which cannot reflect the true attitude of the society toward them. The first reason is the rulers want to protect their governing, and deny the thinkers' opinion, even persecuted them. Here is a strong example. Galileo was persecuted by Vatican because he support Copernicus' theory that the Sun is the centre of the solar system, which threatened the governing of Vatican. However, he is considered today as the most famous thinker and admired by all the people in the world. Another reason is that the society is not that developed to accept the clairvoyant thoughts that are created by the greatest thinkers. Mendel, for instance, discovered the three laws of genetics, which were not thought much of until he was dead for many years. People in that time cannot understand his theory because he was too outstanding. But he is respected as the progenitor of the genetics nowadays. In short, under some certain condition, the greatest thinkers are not regarded by the society, however, that does not mean they will be neglected by people forever. Once their discoveries are proved to be right, they will be admired by not only people, but also the society.
In the final analysis, greatest thinkers were respected from the ancient time. And with the development of the contemporary world, they will be more and more regarded, because both the people and the society are conscious of their important role in the development of the society.
