Multiscale additive manufacturing of nanomaterials-based
functional devices and biomedical electronics

Research Description:
The synergistic integration of nanomaterials with 3D printing can enable the creation of architecture and devices with an unprecedented level of functional integration. Such freeform fabrication capability could overcome the geometrical, mechanical and material dichotomies between conventional manufacturing technologies and a broad range of three-dimensional systems. Our research group focuses on the multiscale integration of nanomaterials in an extrusion-based 3D printing process,[1] enabling the creation of unique functional bioelectronics [2] that can address unmet clinical needs.[3]

Join Us!

We are currently looking for outstanding, highly motivated candidates of all levels to join our group for Spring and Fall 2022.

Fully funded positions:
  • Ph.D. candidates for students passionate to learn about 3D printing/additive manufacturing of nanomaterials-based biomedical electronics and robots, and/or soft matter physics phenomena (e.g., nanomaterials patterning and deposition);
  • Students pursuing M.D.-Ph.D. at the University of Utah;
  • Postdocs with outstanding publications record in the related area.

Other research positions:
  • Master students
  • Visiting students and scholars
  • Undergraduate students

Please send an email to yong.kong@utah.edu with the following:
  • Title the email with “[APPLY] - 'Position of interest' - 'your full name' ”.
  • Attach a CV, all academic transcripts since undergraduate studies, and a copy of GRE and TOEFL/IELTS score reports.

Short-listed candidates will be contacted as soon as possible. We have several openings and the applications will continue to be considered until the position has been filled. Please send the application no later than November 2021 for Spring 2022 admission, and February 2022 for Fall 2022 admission.
