In any field of endeavor – the sciences, the humanities, the social sciences, industry, etc. – it is not the attainment of a goal that matters, but rather the ideas and discoveries that are encountered on the way to the goal.

In this statement, the speaker recommends confirmatively that it is more important to gain ideas and discoveries that are encountered on the way to success than the attainment of a goal in the end. However, the speaker's statement is a little bit extreme, since he or she use a word "any" here which I think is improper. As far as I am concerned, process and goal which is more significant should be made on a case-by-case analysis.

In the realm of the science, one of the most important fields of human endeavor I considered, the process of pursuing knowledge and truth is more prior to the achievement of the final results, since the errs in the process of research and study in the science fields are more often encountered than the right and they usually play as a stepping stones to the success. For example, Columbus thought he could find a short route to India and struggled hard in the journey, and because of his emphasize on the chasing process he finally make a great success that is the discovery of North American as we all know now. Kepler stumbled on the idea of interplanetary gravity because of the assumption which is right for the wrong reason. Another excellent example is the Edison who knew 1800 ways not to build a light bulb.

In the realm of the humanities ad social sciences that have some resemblances to the science noted above, it is more obvious that the process struggling to the goal is the first-rate importance, while the attainment of the goal is only byproduct strived from the research and study in it. The process of the discovery is just like a moving-forward boat, and if the boat is in the march, the spoondrift cannot disappear which can be seen as the achievements. That is to say, the more hard we pursue, the more we gain. Only with hard work in the process, there are achievements and attainments in the front.

However, with respect to the industry field, especially the business realm, the goal is the most paramount important to everything on the contrary to two fields above. To survive in the competitive business world, everyone's aim is to success and every company’s goal is to make more profits. If they don’t, the final end is the failure. Think about it: engineers whose bridge collapses, stock brokers who lose money for their clients, copywriters whose ad complains decrease the sales would lose their jobs. So they must accomplish their goals for the competition nature of the industry field calls for the goal-driven value.

To sum up, the speaker's statement is incomplete and misleading. The concrete situations to every aspect of human endeavor are different form each other and I am strongly disagreed with the speaker's consideration that "in any field" the situation is the same. The recommendation that the speaker claimed above appears a problem of hasty generalization. We should take more patience to make a final conclusion, and take into consideration all aspects of both process and goal basing on a case-by-case analysis.

B1 举例很恰当 但是Edison这句  Another excellent example is the Edison who knew 1800 ways not to build a light bulb. 虽然明白楼主要表达的意思 但是初看起来容易引起歧义

B3    the final end 该表达好象不太地道


总体上思路对了 分领域分析也没有什么问题 主要的问题和我一样 还是事例上比较欠缺

1.TS一般要写的复杂点,可能有点弄巧成拙了.其实我想表达的意思是过程的重要性先于结果,因为在过程中我们会犯错,而这些错误对成功来说是stepping stones.改成下面如何
