Issue135  “While most of the environmental problems we face result from the use of technology ,society must depend upon technology to find solutions to these problems.”

Although the technological advances promote the living levels of the people’s life and the development of the society , it also brings about adverse influences on the society .And the environmental problems is one of the negative effects accompanied with the technological advances. The speaker asserts that only through relying on the technology the environmental problems can be solved .In my view , I strongly agree with the speaker’s assertion for the following several compelling arguments.(76)

To begin with, as for most of the environmental problems, people can only resort to the advanced technology to find effective measures to solve them. Consider, for example , the so-called“greenhouse effect”  which has been highly emphasized by most of the nations recently. The greenhouse gas depletes the ozone layer of the outside  atmosphere ,which leads to the gradually increasing temperature of the earth in which we are living. Recently the members of the Ohm discussed the solutions to the problem, experts consistently thought many complex knowledge such as chemistry , physics ,biology and environment science would be involved in finding the solutions. Moreover no one can positively claim that he or she can ultimately find the perfect measures of solving the problems. And no person devoting to the environmentology can state that he or she can find the solution without the help of the technology. As it turns out , since solving the environmental problems involving many aspects and complex affairs , the society has to rest on the technology. (172)

Secondly, in most cases ,the technology can help the society easily find better solutions to the environmental problems than ever before. After all ,advanced technology are inherently superior to many  primitive and traditional means by which the trash was dealt with.  The striking illustration of the point involves the treatment of the trash in most of the cities of China. In  1960’s, the disposal of the major cities was primarily transported to the remote regions and then buried. But now there special companies to callback ,classify, and recycle the rubbish, and by such doing the society make the best use of the trash and there are also not such potential problems in the future as that would bring about by the measure of burying the rubbish.(126)

Admittedly, there are also many environmental problems which the society can not solve only by resorting to the technology. As we know ,it is scientific fact that there are many species which are  extinct and many others are in danger of disappearing, and environmental experts also warn us that too much extinction of the species would ultimately endanger our own survival as a species. In my observation, the technology does not suffice to solve the problem , and the most significant thing may be the protection measures – decreasing the cutting of forests ,planting more trees in the desert regions , reducing the catching of the species –from the people.(109)

In the final analysis, by relying on the technology the society can find more effective measures to deal with most environmental problems and most of them can only be solved by the technology. But in some other cases, the society can not solve the problems exclusively through depending on the technology.(51)
