Issue36 第三篇, 狗狗明天不用挨饿了:-)

36. The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

To evaluate whether an individual is great , among people in different history eras and different regions, there are distinctive standards due to the diverse cultures and aesthetics .Thereby ,the judgment should based on a case-to-case anlysis.Generally speaking,in my point of view, the standards of evaluation to the greatness of individuals should be divided into the following two aspects----the large historic issues and the art.

On the big issues that refer to the human history and development ,it is wiser and fairer to make a judgment to the individuals by the people who live after them.It is apparently that the contemporaries more or less are prone to be influenced by various factors ,in many cases, their own interest ,at that time and thereby take their own experience and opinions into account while those live later are able to make a decision according to a historic angle ,thus have more objectiveness and overall insight. A striking example is the judgment to the QIN SHIHUANG,who is the first emperor to unit China.Thousands of years before, people who was reigned by Qin Shihuang criticized that he was a extremely crucial person .However, looking into the issue with a overall insight, that his splendid contribution benefits the progress of the human society and few people have the ability to achieve such accomplishment , weighs much more than his fault .Therefore,it comes a conclusion that he is a great person.

However,on the aspect of art,it will be difficult to consider the contribution of an individual  to the society, because in different historic periods, definition of aesthetics among  people will not be the same.Take the absolutely opposite taste of Chinese people in Tang Period and currently time for example, during the Tang Period,it is a prevalent conception that the word Beauty was merely belonged to those women who were fat, however,on the contrary, people of nowadays  regard that the thin are more beautiful.Similarity exists on art. For instance,Van Gogh, who started a novel kind of drowing, was not accepted by people around for that they did not understand what on earth he wanted to suggest. Up until now, most of people haven gotten acquainted to his work and considered him a great  person. While the work of those who were famous at contemporary time of Van Gogh, can not satisfy the taste of the modern people.

To sum up,how to make a fair and objective judgment to an individual should take a number of factors into account.Actually,it is very difficult to offer a perfect answer but in a broad way, different method of evaluation should be applied to different issues.

真郁闷呀!写好了回复却提示“数据库”错误,文字都丢失了:(
明天再再好好看一下。
Emperor Qin Shi Huang 也可写成Chin Shih-huang(, the first Emperor, who unified China in 221 B.C. )
