As societies all over the world have more and more access to new information, the effects on life-long learning can only be positive.

We are living in an information age. Everyday we wake up just to find ourselves submerged in countless newspaper, magazines and pamphlets. Radios, TVs and Internet, all of which are outlandish only decades ago are pouring myriads of information into our brains. Do they accommodate us to pursue life-long learning as the speaker assert? Maybe, and it can only reach this level. What is worse, as I demonstrate below, it also exacerbates the process of life-long learning.

First of all, the more access we have to obtain information, the more likely the trash information hit us, and the more time we waste, let alone life-long learning. It seems that bulging accessibility to information is a curious ambivalent: it facilitates communication and then obstruct it. It tempts us to get news and knowledge and then makes us confused by err, partial or apparently paradox one. We know there is a hot debate about human cloning, but fail to learn what human cloning is and how it works and how it can change our ethic. We know there was a war in Iraq but wonder if it's justified to launch the war and why we launch it. We know the racial discrimination is against constitution but be informed that the black today has a worse life condition than they were 20 years ago. Nobody tells us which is true, provides some details and establishes some causal relations, leaving us bewildered in quarrelsome and boisterous mass media.

Second, there is so much access available to us that we can arrive at almost every piece of news through different media. Yes, it appears good at first glance yet the reverse is just the case. Many people have such experience that when they search for a certain information by using searching engine, say, Google, that how pleased we are when we notice that there are so many pages related to our targets and how depressed we become when we find many of them are identical indeed The same is true and even worse considering that not only Internet but also newspaper, TVs and radios do the same work. Does the repentant information stimulate our life-long learning? Probably not. Instead, they make us doze off, disguise and finally upset.

Of course, it goes without saying that more access does exert some good influence on life-long learning. For example many Chinese learn English through BBC, VOA and CCTV International, many stockholders can learn Allen Greenspan's testimonial in Congress through newspaper and TVs and then modify their investment stratagem accordingly. More and more communicative agents abridge world, thereby keep people updating hence play a positive role in life-long learning.

All in all, more access to information is not designated to improve our life-long learning but the by-product of combination of commercial needs and technology. In this regard, it serves merchants more than learners. Therefore, it does not come as surprise that it serves as curve more than bliss to life-long learning.
