Nowadays, we encounter more and more scandals in our daily life, whether in politics, academia, or other areas. Some people argue that scandals can be useful since they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. In my opinion, scandals are not as terrible as they sound. They can benefit our society if we pay our attention on them and take measure to solve the problems they reveal. However, I believe that scandals are minor cases in our society.
Scandals reveal problems of our society, which we may ignore or never imagine before but which actually exist and do harm to our society. Medias show us all kinds of scandals, corruption of government officials, injustice of laws, addiction to drugs, abuse of gun, sex, violence and so on. We are impressed and scared and angry. Scandals break the glittering appearance of our prosperous world that we dream and speakers and reformers promise. The fact lies there: we have problems yet to solve.
Problems are often regarded as bad things. However, bad things can turn out to be good one, which depends on people's attitudes to bad things. To complain? To be indifferent? To justify? Or to seek a way to eliminate scandals? We have to make an effective and rational decision. When there are scandals in politics, for example, corruption, it is useless to scold the persons who have committed the crime since the harm has already been done. A better choice may be asking what causes of corruption are. Are those corrupt officials "bad persons" inborn? Or are they influenced by the circumstance? Or is there weakness of our political system and law? Taking these into consideration, we can evaluate the problems that scandals reveal and take action to solve the problems. And solving problems is most important and ultimate goals of individuals, governments and the society.
Though scandals can be useful, it is not appropriate to place too much emphasis on them. If every day we are informed that there are scandals everywhere, we will gradually lose hope to our world. But as a whole our world are progressing. Though it has lots of disadvantages and negative part, we cannot deny its advantage and positive part. When a piece of white paper with a black stain is placed in front of us, it is not wise of us to stare the stain but neglect the white paper. If we have no confidence of our ability to improve our world and regard it as an impossible mission, we will not make any progress however simple it is. With the belief that we can do and the will to do, it is not impossible to find an approach to solve problems and achieve goals- to construct a better world.
In summary, scandals can be useful if we take a positive attitude of finding problems and solving problems. Only to face scandals directly, take active response, never lose hope of our world can we expect less and less scandals.
