Should a nation require the same national curriculum for students until they enter college or allow different districts of the nation to determine the academic courses students learn? In my view, the two are not mutually exclusive and how we arrange the portion each one takes depends on the specific situations.

I fundamentally agree with the speaker on the point that national curriculum should be required. First, national curriculum equip students with fundamental skills and knowledge as well as the basic values and virtues such as tolerance, respect, charity and so on which help students become well informed and better prepared for the society. Second, when the children enter college they have a more predictable foundation upon which the college faculty and administrators could build curriculum and select teaching and reading materials for the freshmen.
Finally, the arrangement of the same national curriculum helps develop a standardized mechanism of school organization which brings order and efficiency to school systems. For example, class placement is determined by a student's age, each class period is a specified length, and students graduate after a specified number of years in attendance.

Nevertheless, the programs, course, materials that are of local significance should not be precluded for the reason that the minor ethnics have the rights to maintain their tradition .For instance, in America, Latinos, Asian Americans and African Americans compose over half of the population of the US. These groups have vastly different experiences than the Caucasian majority has had, and how they act and interact will have a significant impact on the direction to this nation tasks. Therefore, the study of the culture of these ethnics takes on an enormous academic importance. In another hand, the distinguished study in each ethnic district provide a means for each group of students to understand the  societal issues affecting their own ethnic and the US, even the whole world.

In the final analysis, the composition of the curriculum also considers the factor whether the school relied on local property taxes or supported and regulated most by the government .In America, when students move from one community to another, they often encounter different curriculum even if they are in the same grade. Even in a given school district, different neighborhoods often contain very different public schools with different courses. In contrast, countries like Japan and China have a school system, financed on the nation level, allowing them to maintain a relatively uniform school environment regardless of the values and economies of the local communities.

In sum, only when the balanced approach that imposes the basic national curriculum and leaves the rest up to each state is attained, can the students gain knowledge from the core curriculum and additional ethnic courses, at the same time, the national cohesion be strengthened.
