Issue55: Competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education.
人们为了更高的学历而竞争,严重限制了人们各个阶段的学习。

9:15--- 10:20 

Syllabus: 部分同意

1.        Competition for high grades is an effective way to encourage people to work hard
2.        On the other hand, purely competition for scores like getting a high mark in an exam will undoubtedly limit the quality of learning.

Nowadays it has been a common belief among people that competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education because they consider competition for high grades will make people only interested in high grades instead of the knowledge and thus is harmful. In my point of view, I deem the idea too absolutely in that there is nothing wrong with the competition and what we should do is to treat it impersonal and equally.

Needless to say, competition for high grades serves as an effective way to arouse and stimulate people’s ambition of learning in the process of study. According to today’s education system, grades and examinations is still the primary way and standard to evaluate people’ learning. Therefore high grades not only show the extent of one’s knowledge level but also will gain admire and worship both from his peers and the teacher which ultimately impetus individuals to work hard and master the knowledge they have learned that eventually would be beneficial in their future work and study. Moreover, take scholarship for example, those who have got high grades possibly have the precedence over others to get the scholarship as a hortation for their hard-working and diligence, which, necessarily, help and stimulate others with lower grades to catch up with the excellence.

On the other hand, purely competition for scores like getting a high score in an exam will undoubtedly limit the quality of learning. In some cases, getting a high mark in an examination does not and can not totally show the one’s familiarity with knowledge in that to some extent scores is just a tool, or at least a passive way to evaluate students’ learning. It is harmful that people who uses every method to increase his scores but does not have a clear acquaintance with his curriculum. Moreover, heat competition for high grades may in the long run arouse extremely mental and psychological stress for students, which will seriously undermine the interests and ability of learning and sometimes, perhaps too extreme, make individuals feel dull with study and lives that do great harm to themselves and to their families and to some extent to the whole society. There have been many reports these years that some students kill themselves just because they have got a low mark in only one examination. These are really sad news not only to their parents but also to the communities and the whole society since they really devote too much to the students and have expose some disadvantages in the existing education system of competition with high grades. But to say objectively, it is not the fault with the competition with high grades in that it is just a tool and whether it is good or not depends on individuals. Treating the method objective and impersonal perhaps is a appropriate way to make best use of ti.

In the final analysis, competition for high grades both has advantages and disadvantages in that it can arouse the inner interests to study and overly competition would do harm in the process of learning. In a word, what we need to do is to treat it impersonal and equally and objectively to make use of the advantages and inhibit its disadvantages.

Nowadays it has been a common belief among people that competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education because they consider competition for high grades (this competition)will make people only interested in high grades instead of the knowledge and thus is harmful. In my point of view, I deem the idea too absolutely (absolute) in that there is nothing wrong with the competition and what we should do is to treat it impersonal (impersonally) and equally.

Needless to say, competition for high grades serves as an effective way to arouse and stimulate people’s ambition of learning in the process of study. According to today’s education system, grades and examinations is(are)still the primary way and standard to evaluate people’ learning. Therefore high grades not only show the extent of one’s knowledge level but also will gain admire and worship both from his peers and the teacher which ultimately impetus(drive) individuals to work hard and master the knowledge they have learned that eventually would be beneficial in their future work and study. Moreover, take scholarship for example, those who have got high grades possibly have the precedence over others to get the scholarship as a hortation for their hard-working and diligence, which, necessarily, help and stimulate others with lower grades to catch up with (觉得可以不要) the excellence.

On the other hand, purely competition for scores like getting a high score in an exam (好像可以不要,觉得不是purely competition 的恰当例子) will undoubtedly limit the quality of learning. In some cases, getting a high mark in an examination does not and can not totally show the one’s familiarity with knowledge in that to some extent scores(觉得grading好点) is just a tool, or at least (most) a passive way to evaluate students’ learning. It is harmful that people(students) who uses(use) every method to increase his(their) scores but does not have a clear acquaintance with his(their) curriculum(s). Moreover, heat(hot/severe) competition for high grades may in the long run arouse extremely mental and psychological stress for students, which will seriously undermine the interests and ability of learning and sometimes, perhaps too extreme, make individuals feel dull with study and lives that do great harm to themselves and to their families and to some extent to the whole society. There have been many reports these years that some students kill themselves just because they have got a low mark in only  (觉得可以不要,跟前面just重复) one examination. These are really sad news not only to their parents but also to the communities and the whole society since they really devote too much to the students and have expose(d) some disadvantages in the existing education system of competition with high grades. But to say objectively, it is not the fault with(of?) the competition with high grades in that it is just a tool and whether it is good or not depends on individuals. Treating the method objective(ly) and impersonal (ly)perhaps is a(n) appropriate way to make best use of ti.

In the final analysis, competition for high grades both has (觉得has both好点) advantages and disadvantages in that it can arouse the inner interests to study and (觉得but好点) overly competition would do harm in the process of learning. In a word, what we need to do is to treat it impersonal(ly) and equally and objectively to make use of the advantages and inhibit its disadvantages.
