38． In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

In the age of television, more attention has been paid toon discussion about the importance of book. Many people hold different views due to their various experiences. As for me, I support the ideasidea that though reading books is not as important as it once was, watching television contributes less to people's study than books.

Admittedly, thanks to the development of other tools such as television, reading books isnot楼主小心阿，你这样把意思整个就反了 the only way to acquire knowledge. In the time without TV, people would have to read books for learning some information that is distant to one's surrounding. But now, the status has been changed largely on account of commencement of the TV as an alternativealternation to receive information. For example, National geography, a famous channel, concentrates on introducing the natural environment and human culture all over the world. In this case, people can get other countries' information through the TV channel substituting for the books about geography and culture. Because the book is not the unique choice to study knowledge as before, the importance of reading book has inclineddeclined. 你这儿只写道电视可以有书的作用并没有说电视的优势怎吗可以得出书的重要性低了那？

However, the knowledge which comes from books is still more that bethan the knowledge which is transmitted inby the TV. There are two main reasons conducting to this situation.

First, studying contents and time are decided by the TV station instead of choosing by selfoneself. Although the TV presents the knowledge not only in words but also in pictures, people cannot choose the study contents and times as their willsat will. If one intends to study the history about the Independent Revolution of American, the TV station would possibly refuse to play it in that the ratio of watching is low or play it after 12 p.m. when one has to sleep for work tomorrow. Furthermore, one has notno right to choose which film about the Independent Revolution of American is played and it is very likely that the depth of contents is too superficial to cater for one's orderorder 什么意思. Consequently, as an indirect way to learn, watching TV results in the effect and efficiency of study cannot arrive at the level of reading books.不应该只写电视在时间和内容上选择性小，还应该与书作比较吧？
Second, TV programs aim at recreation rather than infusing knowledge. In order to make more profits, TV stations try their best to cater for inspector's appetite. The most of inspectors want to relax through the TV programs, which determine the main contents are the recreation; otherwise the number of inspectors will drop so that the profit declines too. Hence, few programs about knowledge showed on the screen and the chance of people study from TV is fewer. That may be the reason why the book exists still nowadays, even though the TV has been so advanced and commonly. In virtue of intention of TV programs serves as an entertainment tool, it is hard to learn the knowledge from TV more than books.这一段也没有讲述与电视作比较，只写一方面估计很难说服对方吧？

In sum, because of the invention of television, book is not asimportant as before, at the same time, because of inconvenience and aims of TV program, it hardly does the same as book. Therefore, we should choose books as the best way to acquire knowledge, though their importance has dropped.
