------题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
The statement above misleadingly suggests that the greatness of individuals are decided by time. It is true that a lot of giants were neglected or even persecuted by their contemporaries, however, rather than the reason above, it is because of their work cannot be realized or utilized by the society of their time.

First of all, if one's work cannot be understand by his contemporaries, he would not be considered great at that time. Especially in the realm of art, for that art is somewhat a way to express the author’s feelings. If the works go beyond cotemporaries' cognition, then the audience would not know the meaning of the author. In that case, how can the author be considered great? For instance, Van Gogh, whose work represents epitome of expressionism, cannot find a decent audience during his lifetime. His paintings are full of intense color and turbulent brush strokes, which were very different with the coeval works, thus cannot be comprehended and accepted by his contemporaries, let alone thought these works as masterpieces. Until 20th century, van Gogh's work became well acknowledged, and became more and more popular, even brought record prices in auction.

In addition, in case that one's work cannot be utilized at his time, his greatness would be neglected. This happens frequently in the field of science. The ultimate goal of scientific research is to apply it to society. Therefore if someone's work cannot or at least have a possibility to be utilized (in other's eyes, and usually bounded with time), then it would hardly be considered as great achievement. Take Mendel as example, nobody now can deny that he is a great people, for that modern hereditary theory was based on his experimental work. However, the significance of his work was not realized for decades. Until Mendel's work utilized to demonstrate evolution theory, it's full importance were recognized.

On the contrary, one's greatness would be acknowledged immediately when his work can be understood or made use of. Picasso, for example, was widely accepted by his contemporaries as a most important artist. His innovative contribution of developing cubism was highly appraised by other artists because they could understand Picasso's brilliant paintings, and share the feelings the great artist expressed through it. Einstein’s theory can perfectly explain some phenomenon which classic physics failed to, and can applied to produce a large amount of energy, so he became world famous afterward.

To sum up, some individuals' greatness can be decided by their contemporaries, while some other ones cannot. It depends on weather their work can be understood or utilized.

------题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
The statement above misleadingly suggests that the greatness of individuals are decided by time(感觉不当,这样可以么).

If the works go beyond cotemporaries' cognition, then the audience would not know the meaning of the author(不适用于画家). (是不是再点一下比较好)

In addition, in case(与 in the case 不同) that one's work cannot be utilized at his time, his greatness would be neglected. This happens frequently in the field of science. The ultimate goal of scientific research is to apply it to society. Therefore if someone's work cannot or at least have a possibility to be utilized (in other's eyes, and usually bounded with time), then it would hardly be considered as great achievement. Take Mendel as example, nobody now can deny that he is a great people(?), for that modern hereditary theory was based on his experimental work. However, the significance of his work was not realized for decades. Until Mendel's work utilized to demonstrate evolution theory, it's full importance were recognized.(是不是该总结一下上面的观点?)

The statement above misleadingly suggests that the greatness of individuals are decided by time. It is true that a lot of giants were neglected or even persecuted by their contemporaries, however, rather than the reason above, <it is because of their work cannot be realized or utilized by the society of their time这句话语法有问题,有两个谓语了>.

First of all, if one's work cannot be understand <understood> by his contemporaries, he would not be considered great at that time. The statement above misleadingly suggests that the greatness of individuals are decided by time. (能否statement做主语后跟suggest呀?)It is true that a lot of giants were neglected or even persecuted by their contemporaries, (下面写成单独句子比较好,而且可能用not...but...句型会好看点)however, rather than the reason above, it is because of their work cannot be realized or utilized by the society of their time.(缺少连接词,老外很讲究)

你文章的结构很好,而且论证有力,论据选的很不错。词汇也比较丰富。不过第一段的开头写的欠佳一点了,看一下280篇就好了。
