It is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician.

Some people assert that it is impossible for an effective political to tell the truth all the time, therefore complete honesty is not a desirable virtue for a politician. However, we have been taught that honesty is the fundamental virtue of human being, which will not change with the development of a society.

An effective political leader should maintain a high moral and ethic stand in order to secure a good image and strengthen his power in political struggles.  For example, a famous Watergate incident resulted in the resignation of Nixon, the old president in America, who abused his power which was given by the public to cheat the citizen in order to achieve his own interest. This illustrate that any political leader who tries to make fool of his nation will automatically bring himself or herself to a failure. Another example of this case is the love affair of Clinton, also the old president in America.  After confessing his scandal, he regained his reputation successfully, because the public assessed that a president who is brave to confess his weakness is worthy of be trusted. These two examples illustrate that honesty is still a useful virtue for political, those who play trickery to fool people will lose his reputation in the public. Moreover, public scrutiny plays an invisible but strong effect on supervising the political leaders.

On the other hand, when it comes to super national confidential, it is necessary to withhold some information for political leaders in order to being effective. After all, their fundamental accountability is to facilitate a prosperity and maintain stability of a country. For example, an political official should not expose any information, such as a duty on arresting drug traffickers and internet terrorists. If such confidential were disclosed ahead of the actual action taken by the government, these courses of actions would surely not work well, even give rise to a potential riot in the public. So, being an effective political leader, he should weigh that what information can be reveal and when to tell the information. That is his responsibility, and that is how he deserved to be a superior leader of a country.

Giving that politics is different than any other field, it is more like a struggle between small groups, and each group strive for the maximum interest. Therefore, we should distinguish individuals' characters of a political leader in personal life and in his career life.  By comparison between Nixon and Clinton, both of them committed a scandal, we see the former lose his power in politics, on the contrary, the latter maintained his reputation and gained more understanding. Why? The reason is simple. The public distinguished the personal life from a career life when they assess the quality of their leaders. So, there are two standards to regulate a political leader. Moreover, not telling the truth all the time does not necessarily mean tell lies all the time. It can be paraphrased to be withhold some information appropriately.

In summary, we all know the famous fable about the boy who was eaten by the wolf because he told three lies. Honest is one of lasting virtue for us, let alone the political leader, who usually set a good example for its nation. However, considering the complexity of politics’ nature and the lessons we get from the history, being effective political leader should be flexible on the exposure of national information and also prevent from abuse their authority to pursuit his interest.

Giving that politics is different than any other field, it is more like a struggle between small groups, and each group strives for the maximum interest. Therefore, we should distinguish the individual character of a political leader in personal life and in his public life.  By comparing Nixon and Clinton, both of them committed a scandal, we see the former lose his power in politics, while on the contrary, the latter maintained his reputation and gained more understanding. Why? The reason is simple. The public distinguished the personal life from a public life, when they assessed the quality of their leaders. So, there are two standards to regulate a political leader. 我从论证上面说一下吧，第一个问题是为什么诚实是很重要的美德，为什么leader也需要这种美德你说的还不是很清楚，你可以仔细交代一下，比如，诚实是人类最宝贵的美德之一，而leader需要给我们做一个典范，表率，所以才需要他们诚实。

第二个问题是clinton的问题，我不觉得他的丑闻是一个正面的例子，而对于判卷人，也不一定会有这样的认同，所以，对于这样有些争议的问题要慎用。

第三个问题，drug traffickers 的例子似乎在280上面见过，最好换成别的。

基本上思路和论证还是到位的。加油！
