  "The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries."


Some people think that judging an individual by people who live after them is more objective than by those who live in the same period with them. But I think there still exists some prejudices while doing so and judgments made by the descendants and contemporaries are both useful and have the value of reference.

Of course, the greatness of an individual can not always be sensed by their contemporaries and usually is discovered after several decades or even hundreds of years. It is because sometimes great people can see things farther and precede their period, but most of their contemporaries can not understand. For example, Anderson, a famous Danish poet, was not as famous when he was alive. He was born in a poor family and was ordinary-looking. Although the fairy tales he wrote were beautiful and moving, he was ignored through all his life. People thought that his stories were superficial and even his patron thought he would accomplish nothing. But now, he is thought to be one of the greatest authors in the world. Even the adults like reading his stories and of course no one think he is superficial. This example perfectly illustrates that it is likely that an individual's contemporaries can not see the points he or she should be admired.

But on the other hand, are the judgment made by the descendants definitely correct? Nowadays, some people begin to think whether the history we study now is exactly the real history and if not, how far it deviates the fact. Historians consider that almost all kinds of historical books are one-sided. People tend to revise the history in the way they like whether they are intentional or not and so history is different in different people's eyes. What's more, some governments are also likely to do so because of their interests. Officials can delete the facts that may be harmful to them and reserve or even add some contents that are beneficial to them. As a result, it is hard for common people to recognize the real history and therefore, we can not expect the judgment made by the descendants is absolutely objective.

Thus, how can we judge an individual as objective as we can if neither the descendants nor the contemporaries can be trusted with ease? In my opinion, what we should do is to read more records of an individual and try to abandon all the prejudice to make our own decision. As I said in the first paragraph, both of the two kinds of judgments have the value of reference, so they are both helpful to our research. We can read the records made by the contemporaries of the people we want to study to get a more real fact. The descendants' judgments can help us to see the individual through modern conception. And the most important thing is that we can not be credulous and must have our own idea.

Generally speaking, both the judgment made by the descendant and the contemporaries of an individual have their flaw and advantage. We need to use both of them to avoid prejudice and try to make a more objective judgment.

文章似乎写的有点偏题.题目问的是伟人成就只能被后人认可,不能为同时代人认可.但是文章第一句话就说后人比前人评价更客观.文章应该先回答能不能被同时代人认可.
尽量不要用第一人称,例如we should ....文章显的主观,不正式.

这句话的and不是很自然，看了文章才对后半句的conclusion比较明白

文章还是挺好的，第2，3，4段各自按照主题句展开，段落之间存在逻辑关系
