正文
Is the artist or the critic who gives the society something of lasting value? The speaker asserts the former. As far as I consider, both of them play a significant role for a judgment of artworks, which provides a continuing value. In addition, I concede that critics sometimes make an inexact assessment.

To begin with, artists, who are the creator, endue the artworks with lasting value. When an artwork is accomplished, it embodies the artist's inspiration, idea, innovation, ingenuity and effort. For this reason, when the artist writes a book, draw a painting, or play a piece of music, at the same he imbues the artwork with a value, which is actually existing and can not be erased, no matter whether or not the value is discovered by others. In this point, this part of value within artworks has little to do with the critics. One compelling example is Beethoven, a great music composer, who wrote a great deal of symphonies which is still highly praised now. The value of his works, which is surely a lasting one, is not produced by the critics.

Second, critics have the work or obligation to study the artworks and interpret and explore their value, so that ordinary people can understand it. With the critics' comments, the spectacular and profound meanings of artworks can be revealed and accepted. Thus, in this perspective, critics give the society the lasting value of artworks. For instance, the paintings of Van Gogh did not fit the contemporaries' value system and their value is underestimated. It is the later critics who found their greatness so that they can be reserved and reviewed. Moreover, the critics' study can deepen the understanding of some widespread work and consequently found new value of them. It is an obvious fact that the recognition of Shakespeare’s works is quite different between present people and those a hundred years ago. It is because of the critics' unstopping analysis lead us to a more profound level.

Admittedly, the critics' judgment, which is an immensely subjective notion, can not be always right or precise probably. On the one hand, the subjective of critics' judgment brings the distinctions in the comments to a certain artwork, so that no one can determine which is right. Such judgments can not make lasting value but disappear lately. On the other hand, the critics may be hired by the artists to make positive but distorted comments of their artworks. A telling example is the comments to films. Critics always play an advertising role to help the film maker to achieve larger profit. People can hardly obtain the true value of a film by those comments.

To sum up, it is the artist who builds the lasting value and the critic who exposes it. Both of them serve to give the public the true and enduring value of art. However, when we judge an artwork's value and read the critics' idea, we need to realize the subjective of the critics' assessments. Therefore we can obtain a more precise view of the artworks.

Is the artist or the critic who gives the society something of lasting value?这句表达不对吧应该是 who does give the society something of lasting value, the critic or artist? The speaker asserts the former. As far as I consider最好用I am concerned, both of them play a significant role foron a thejudgment of art works, whichwhich代谁? provides a continuing value. In addition, I concede that critics sometimes make an inexact assessment.开头表达不是很好,建议参照别人的修改

To begin with, artists, who are the creator, endue the artworks with lasting value. When an artwork is accomplished, it embodies the artist's inspiration, idea, innovation, ingenuity and effort. For this reason, when the artist writes a book, draw a painting, or play a piece of music, at the same he imbues the artwork with avalue是可数么? value, imbue这个词常是与with连用,最好用be imbued with which is actually existing 没有be existing的表达,就exists 就行and can not be erased, no matter whether or not the value is discovered by others.偶不明白你的for the reason是什么意思,你想想后面是前面的原因么,感觉不通顺 In this point, this part of value within artworks has little to do with the critics. One compelling example is Beethoven, a great music composer, who wrote a great deal of symphonies which is still highly praised now. The value of his works, which is surely a lasting one, is not produced by the critics.

It is an obvious fact that the recognition of Shakespeare’s works is quite different between present people and those a hundred years ago. It is because of the critics' unstopping analysis lead us to a more profound level. 这段论述的基本清楚,写出了评论家的作用
