In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

With the development of the science and technology, we gradually find that something new and morden begin to take the place of old ones. The development of television is threating the status of book for its way of getting informations and knowledge. I fundamentally share the view held by the speaker in several aspects.

Television can provide us with accuracy as well as convience in getting informations, which book lacks. Our ancestors,when wanted to learn something, would have to find the relevant book and read it line by line. Instead of the act, nowadays, we are often put with information and knowledge while laying on the sofa before TV. What a comfotable way it is! Moreover, information provided by book often lack accurency,as book is not an immediate medius. Accordingly, television have the characteristic of variance. It could change and improve the information in it at any time if needed, which could help people informed of most current incidents.

Through watching TV, people also could learn much things. What can be acquired in books is also available on the TV classes and forums. Today there is a kind of college named "TV university" in China. In the college, students only study by watching TV in which teachers give their lessions. From the case indicating the possibility of learning on TV, we can make the conclusion that TV can provide no less knowledge than books do.

While TV have its efficacy and efficiancy in getting information and knowledge, we should not indulge ourselves in it. It is reported once in a newspaper that in China children on average spend 6 hours watching TV programes a day, which I think, is harmful to them since too much time on TV is sure to lessen the time for study and other activities. Furthermore, nowadays TV programes are full of violence and sex , which might have negative impact on the development of juveniles.What is worse is that, as a result, some children might attempt to inimate the behaviors of actors on TV. Campus violences  usually taking place in US is the best illustration.Although it may be an extreme example, it illustrates that television is a two-side sword that has its danger if utilized uncorrectly.

To conclude, television brings lots of merits to us. So we should make a good use of it. At the same time we should not ignore the value of books which is still a good way of getting informations.
