Is acquiring knowledge of a variety of academic disciplines the best way to be truly educated, as the speaker asserts? In my view, to some extent it is valuable for student to attend appropriate courses outside his or her field of study, however, to become truly educated does not just mean acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines, as discussed below.

Common sense tells us that it's essential for student to take various courses outside the student's field of study. First, student will become open-minded after taking various courses. If a student majoring mathematics just devotes to learn courses of mathematics such as algebra, geometry, calculus, and so forth, it will sometimes make him dreary. Secondly, taking various courses outside the student's field of study will intrigue the student's interests and enable student to master more method and approach to the questions in his field. For example, taking the courses in arts such as theology, music, philosophy, and so forth, will spark a student who majors in sciences, the arts will encourage student to make full use of his potential. Moreover, it is patently that many field are linked with each other such as physical and chemistry and thus student will benefit for taking courses related with his or her field.

It is obvious that student will benefit from taking various courses, however, this is not to say university should require every student to do so. It's not only unnecessarily, but also wrong-headed because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is not the best way to become truly educated. Firstly, students may have not enough time and energy to take various academic disciplines; even he is reluctant to take them. If universities require students do so, it will impede the learning process of student, although taking the related, appropriate courses will be beneficial to student.  

Finally, to become truly educated does not mean acquiring enough academic disciplines. At this era of rapid changing society leading to society complex and mental displacement, universities should make sure that student can acquire the capacity to respect the different viewpoints, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors and subordinates for the future. Various academic disciplines nevertheless will not enable student to qualify such abilities, which are essential for student.

In fact, universities can encourage students take the courses, which interests them, and it is arbitrary to require all students to take various courses outside his academic disciplines. Moreover, universities should enable students to qualify communicate with others, and only by this way, can students become truly educated.

Secondly, the arguer makes a mistake that the analogy between the garbage and the library is groundless. The arguer says there are few complaints about the service of the garbage collection departments after merge into a single. However, it is obvious that the responsibility of this department is largely different from that of the library. Although the two garbage collection department (departments) merge in (merged into) a single one, it is entirely possible that the efficiency and qualify of it (its) service has become better by increasing the worker (increase worker 不通啊) to serve both village. While the duty of garbage collection department should do directly (抽象，如何构成对比？library 不directly?) to the villages to serve the residents, the responsibility of the library is different, residents have to go to library to borrow and read books (不要一逗到底，加一些表逻辑的连接词however, in that等等。强对比，因果关系要有信息提示的). So (下面说的是另一点, 和analogy 没关系了，和TS对不上。而且So 是表因果的，不合适), if Castorville is far from Polluxton, it is not convenient for the residents who live in Polluxton to use (the) library.

Finally, the arguer tries to convince us that last year the library in Polluxton had 20 percent fewer users than during the previous year. There are many reasons why the number of uses is decreasing. Perhaps the service in the library in Polluxton becomes so bad that residents are not willing to use it. It is possible that both the kinds and the number of books are too poor. Moreover, the arguer has not investigate (investigated) the situation in the Castorville, it is possible that the situation in Castorville is worse than Polluxton. If so, the library will not econimize and improve service.

In the final analysis, the arguer are (单数) so hasty to decide to close the library in Polluxton. To strength (strengthen) his viewpoint, he should give the evidence that the residents who use the library in Polluxton are sharply decreasing. To better support his point, he should investigate the situation in Castorville in order to make sure whether there are more residents use the library.
