The following appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature's Way, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products.
'Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville's schoolchildren are required to participate in a 'fitness for life' program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.'

In this memorandum, the arguer recommends that Nature's Way should build their next new store in Plainsville, because there has many residents who are highly concerned with leding healthy lives. To justify this recommendation, the arguer pionts out the fact that Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. In addition, the arguer supplies the evidence about the local health club's running situation and a "fitness for life" program to support this claim.
However, it is not difficult for one who have a close examination of this argument to reveal how groundless of it. This arugment mainly suffers from several flaws.
In the first place, the fact offered about Plainsville merchants' report is insufficient to lend strong support to the conclusion that the residents in Plainsville are highly concerned with healthy lives. While it is true that the residents in Plainsville are really liking healthy lives in some cases, it is equally possible the residents buy such produce just for sports because they want to keep their good shape. Moreover, the arguer fails to rule out that it is the same reason leads to the good operation condition of local health club.
In the second place, granted that the residents are really concerned with healthy life, the arguer unfairly assumes that the residents in Plainville will buy the produce of Nature's Way. As mentioned in this argument, the stroes and clubs regarding with the health are running very well, Thus, the arguer should take the competation into account. However, there is no sign of it. The arguer should additionally consider the cost of transportation, the operation fee and so on. The cost of running a store in Plainville perhaps very high. If so, the claim that opening a new store in Plainville will bring Nature's Way profits will be seriously weaken.
All in all, to make the recommendation logically acceptable, the arguer should provide more information to demonstate the residents in Plainville are really concerned with healthy life. Moreover, I will suspend my doubt about the credity until the arguer could show us more evidence to prove Natrue's Way can gain profits in Plainville.
