Nowadays, there is a public serious debate about whether the humanity has made any real progress over the past century. Some people denounced that although the technological level of our society has been enhanced greatly, it still can not eliminate disaster, war, and poverty and the technology could not change the condition of humanity. For this complex discussion, different people will hold distinctive opinion. I think it is a hasty conclusion and we can not completely impute the demoralization to the technology. To illustrate my view that the technology innovations sometimes have been helpful to the humanity, we should answer these questions followed.

Firstly, what is the purpose of the technological innovations? The answer would probably be to change the living condition, to make the inhabited environment more convenient, and to cater to the different people’s needs. The scientists and the engineers dedicate their lives to making our life better and this dedication is the embodiment of their humanity. Pasteur found the bacteria not for developing biologic weapons. Nobel invented the detonator not to kill human beings with it. Pasteur just wanted to save patients’ lives. Nobel’s only target was to help people overcome the mountains and rivers. They invent novel technologies not to bring about evils, but implement the wonderful will of the humanity. So the purpose of the technological innovations roots in the humanity.

Secondly, what do people get from the technological innovations? Unfortunately, history witnesses that people have used the technology not only to make convenience, but also to engender tragedies. A well-known instance is the Internet, which is playing a more and more important role in the world. Doctors can use Internet to discuss the diagnosis projects for patients with their colleague all over the world and make efforts to save many people’s life. Nevertheless, some people use the Internet to spread the erotic pictures or the violent culture. And the criminals use it to transfer the criminous information. The former use reflects the sublime humanity, but the latter explain that once the technology was used by someone with ulterior motives, it will bring us misfortune. So we can see that without humanity, people would bring out huge disaster using the technology.

Moreover, we have to answer the last but the most crucial question, what is the real relationship between the technological innovations and the humanity progress? I think the respondence should be ambilateral. On one hand, the innovations of technology sometimes could be beneficial for the humanity. Not only the scientists, the artists can use new media methods to represent their works, and the educators can make their students more easily understand the knowledge with the help of the technology. Such traditional means to elevate the humanity would be changed by the technological innovations and the condition of humanity would become better. On the other hand, the improper utilization of the technology would lead to the corruption and the spiritual depravity. It also can be used to suppress democracy or kill millions of defenceless civilians. Herein the use of technology will be constructed on the basis of inhumanity.

From the above discussion, we can easily draw a reasonable conclusion that although the technological innovations indeed can not dispel the catastrophe, even sometimes it helps a tyrant to do evils; it still can change the condition of humanity because it is the human being that reform technology and behave with humanity. So, our society will have a wonderful future with the technological innovations and the elevation of humanity, in spite of some problems.
