"seeing is believing", thanks to the invention of video camera, nowadays, we can fetch more accurate  record about our life, get more convincing information of the incidents happening at home and aboard every second. Yet, as for whether it, therefore, has become a more important form of documentation than written records, I think fewer people will say yes after all-sided weigh as follows.

The unique role video camera places, in the report about the terrible tsunami several months ago, do prove its superiority than written record in some aspects. Through the astonishing pictures about the incident, more and more people get aware of the grave result. A little child crying on the beach with tattered clothes; a woman looking at her house destroyed by the tsunami with tears; hundreds of refugee in the scene... The accurate and convincing of such pictures provoke the universal sympathy from the world. Let us image, even if the best journalist come to report the tragedy, only with his moving pen, how long tha paper need he to use to describe  "terrible" ,describe the sorrow and the tears hang on every pity eyes? How many words he should find from the dictionary to make the report accurate and convincing, to move so many good hearts?

Having recognized the efficient usefulness of such great invention, we ought not to forget the words written beside every picture. Without the words "the Indian Ocean", we may spend several minutes to find out where the incident happens. Without the word "X million", how can we get to know the number of refugee whom need us to support? In addition, we should not overlook the cost of so many pictures taking in the report: the cost of instruments of special cameras and roll films. Moreover, roll films always will take up more space for store, it is also difficult to rehab such records once get damaged.

In comparison, maybe written records can not do as well as video camera in the achieving of accurate and convincing. However, other superiorities belong to written records make them the most important form of documentation in history and in contemporary life. In common newspaper, terseness is the main request of news report, a good newspaper should provide the most information within lest the time it costs the reader, as businessman, to read. "… the weather today is ..." and "… there is a traffic accident in the XX street " turns to be the best form.

Maybe we equal the record with the new record only above, all the time. What about the record of history? Before the invention of video camera, we had to choose the words as the unique way. Nowadays, what should we choose to "write" our contemporary history? No one will say the video camera only is enough. In fact, terseness and less cost lead us to choose the written records as the main form. A pen or a typewriter, some paper, we begin to write our world: “in the year of XX, the founder of IBM ...", "... in the Indian Ocean ..." Of course, we should add some pictures and roll film in our documentation for our children and later generation. The word combined with relevant pictures and film turn to be the best way.

I will choose video camera to record the smile shining in the faces of my wife and children. I choose to write "I love you" on my diary every day, to record my love to them in my personal "documentation"
