------题目------
In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important discoveries.
------正文------
What is the role played by those beginners in the field of inquiry? When facing this question, different people will have different opinions. Some may argue that since the beginners are likely to bring some new perspectives to the particular field and thus they are likely to make important discoveries than those existing experts, while others may suggest the right opposite. However, careful reflection shows that it is the experts who are likely to bring about new findings, an answer that may disappoint some beginners.
There is no doubt that beginners play a role that are important to some extent in the field of inquiry. As newcomers, they have learned the newest theories and facts relating to their specific field, and when they come into the professional area, they bring about quite new perspectives and the current development, acting like new blood injected into old vessels and revitalize the whole field. People admit this, but over emphasis on the role of beginners should be avoided because they don't possess enough knowledge and theories about the particular field, and what's more important, long working experiences that are essential to important discoveries, the very thing that existing experts have.
Therefore, the answer to the question mentioned in the first paragraph is that expert is more likely than the beginner to make important discoveries, and in any field. In the field of natural science, those experts are likely to possess diverse theories about the area they are excel at and sometimes the whole development of a new field from birth to the present. They have devoted their time to doing research. As a result, they are more likely to maintain enough theoretical basis and have a sense of what is the right direction that towards possible findings while the beginners, may even sometimes lose themselves in facing so many different ideas and as a result cannot figure out which direction they should pursue. For example, while Einstein developed the Theory of Relativity with extensive knowledge about classic physics and its limitations and from his long period of scientific thinking, we cannot simply expect some newly graduated doctors in the field of physics can work out this theory, a big jump of physics since they lack the theoretical basis and way of thinking problems Einstein had. Similar facts could be found throughout very branches of the natural science and therefore we can reach the conclusion that experts are more likely to have surprising findings.
Besides, outside the field of the natural science, when focus is placed on the social science, the same holds true. For example, in the field of management, working experiences plays a vital role, a fortune only those experts have but rarely possessed by those beginners. When Jack Welch, the former CEO of GE, noticed that in the past work, the efficiency of management was at a low level and thus the corporation didnot show fierce competitiveness, and the reason for this was that they have not employed precise measurement in assessing their working. Inspired by this, he found a new way of managing, the famous "Six-Sigma", which led to the prosperity of the GE. Had not been his long working experience, there would be no the great contribution to the world of management. Other field like finance, the creation of new financial tools is always the great works of those experts since they know the very difference between diverse tools and thus how they can be effectively combined with each other, the knowledge gained by there working experience. However, for the beginners, whether they are familiar with so many financial tools is still a question, let alone making important discoveries. Therefore, we should expect more on those experts for new findings.
Reality has shown that there is a clear answer to the question that who is more likely than the expert to make important discoveries, the beginner or the expert? That is the expert. However, beginners should not feel frustrated by this because as long as they work hard, there will be someday when they themselves become experts in the field and they can make important contributions to the whole human race.
