PhD Opening (Fully Funded) at Louisiana State University – Spring or Fall 2026 Dr. Zhihong Pang’s research group in the Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University (LSU) is seeking one fully funded PhD student to begin in Spring or Fall 2026. Research Focus:
The position will focus on battery-building integration and demand response optimization, using tools such as EnergyPlus and Modelica. The project is supported by the Louisiana Institute for Energy Innovation. Applicants with backgrounds in building energy systems, HVAC, thermal and power engineering, automation, or broader fields related to Mechanical and Electrical Engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with building simulation, Python programming, automatic control, or machine learning is preferred but not required. The applicant is expected to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and responsible. Funding and Benefits:
Upon admission, the student will receive a full Research Assistantship (RA), including: The student will also have opportunities to attend two academic conferences per year, either within the United States or internationally. Research Environment:
The research group currently includes three fully funded PhD students, working on building simulation, control, optimization, and machine learning. The group is supported by multiple external research grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the Louisiana Institute for Energy Innovation, providing stable and sufficient research funding. Louisiana State University is a flagship public R1 institution with strong simulation and laboratory infrastructure.
