这个position的研究方向为电池与建筑控制的交互和需求响应优化 (Battery-building integration and demand response)。主要研究工具会用到EnergyPlus和Modelica。经费由一笔路易斯安那能源创新研究院 Institute for Energy Innovation 提供。非常鼓励有暖通,能动,机械,电气自动化等背景的学生申请。有建筑模拟,机器学习,Python编程,自动控制等研究经历的学生优先,但不是必须。希望学生有 motivation, 有热情,有责任感。

PhD Opening (Fully Funded) at Louisiana State University – Spring or Fall 2026

Dr. Zhihong Pang’s research group in the Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University (LSU) is seeking one fully funded PhD student to begin in Spring or Fall 2026.

Research Focus:
The position will focus on battery-building integration and demand response optimization, using tools such as EnergyPlus and Modelica. The project is supported by the Louisiana Institute for Energy Innovation.

Applicants with backgrounds in building energy systems, HVAC, thermal and power engineering, automation, or broader fields related to Mechanical and Electrical Engineering disciplines are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with building simulation, Python programming, automatic control, or machine learning is preferred but not required. The applicant is expected to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and responsible.

Funding and Benefits:
Upon admission, the student will receive a full Research Assistantship (RA), including:

  • A monthly stipend of $2,556 (pre-tax)

  • Full tuition waiver

  • Health insurance

  • Additional university-provided benefits


The student will also have opportunities to attend two academic conferences per year, either within the United States or internationally.

Research Environment:
The research group currently includes three fully funded PhD students, working on building simulation, control, optimization, and machine learning. The group is supported by multiple external research grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the Louisiana Institute for Energy Innovation, providing stable and sufficient research funding.

Louisiana State University is a flagship public R1 institution with strong simulation and laboratory infrastructure. The campus is located in downtown Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, with convenient access to amenities. New Orleans is approximately one hour away by car.

The group culture emphasizes productivity without pressure—focused, collaborative, and respectful.
