issue 54 历史教人决策

------题目------
History teaches us only one thing: knowing about the past cannot help people to make important decisions today.
------正文------
What could the past teaches us? Nothing, according to the speaker, of help is available for our decision making. In other words, there is no need to learn history. On the contrary, I insist that knowing from the past is essential for making decisions today.

Many might argue that history is yesterday, and things change like a flowing river. Greek philosopher Heracleitus once said that one cannot enter into the same river twice in his or her life. Undoubtedly, situations have been changing so differently and largely from the past even hours ago, let alone those in our ancestors' time, that decision maker could not and should not xerox the outdated decision to settle down present problems. However, this is not to say that the past is just past, useless and unnecessary for one to learn. If so, it is a waste of time and money to have history courses during education, and so is the research work by historians.

History is where we are from. One could acquire not only the knowledge and experience but also the methods and skills in dealing with problems. For one thing, the experience and background knowledge is crucial for decision making. Let us take a glance at the process of our decision formulation. It is prerequisite to get across the background of the problem concerning: the apple of discord, the potential contributions, the inherent context and alike. Without this fundamental knowledge one could hardly achieve any a reasonable decision. For another, the most tasteful fruit we could capture from the history tree is the ability of solving problems. It is for sure that we could not make decisions on the basis of things happened thousands years ago. While the approaches with which our forbears settled down similar problems would enlighten our minds. Especially when we have a profound possession of the knowledge of the past, we could formulate our own rational thought to see into problems. That is the quality endowed by nature and by history as well.

Moreover, knowing about the past make us wise especially when making important decisions today. Empirical evidences show that decisions making elites with profound history knowledge would be more easily to make right decisions when confronting crucial conditions. In contrast, the lack the knowledge of the past for a leader could lead to disastrous decisions. For instance, Hitler met his blunder in the Europe when goading his troops into the arctic area in Russia to fight with the accustomed and experienced Russian soldiers, which would be similar to the mistake made by Napoleon half a century ago. In addition, learning from the past would teach us moral and ethical standards when facing critical problems. For example, we learn from the disaster and chaos brought by bloody wars for the last century, and then we would try our utmost effort to prohibit any kind nowadays.

While this is not enough. Background knowledge and rational approaches are preconditions, though insufficient, for making a wise decision. Besides, one must make a comprehensive deliberation including both the past and the present situations. It is just similar with market predictions. The market analysts should take into accounted all the useful materials like historical statistics and social reality to make the final decision. And failure would be prone to take place with partial reliance.

In sum, it is very important for people to learn from the past. History could bestow on us both the experience and also approaches concerning decision making. When one has to make a crucial and critical decision, he or she must resort to the consideration of the knowledge from the past and the analyses of present situation as well.

第一段说nothing,其实是作者自己说的,他的观点seemly positive, whille basically negotive:the only one thing proves to be inavailable, which equals to the saying history teaches us nothing. 偶是这么认为的哦
