The speaker stated that video camera is a more important form of documentation than written records for its accuracy and reliability in recording contemporary life. I conceded that it is true to some extent. However, it is just unpersuasive without considering the advantages of written records.
个人觉得用I conceded that it is…倒不如用It seems … to some extent, however,..
Admittedly, video camera does have taken vivid pictures of modern life, from which one can visualize the events that he or she cannot go through. Since it provides the incidences caught by cameras, it offers greater chance for people to watch the things happening without on the spot in person. For example, the World Cup of Football, held every four year, is often at deep night where the show taken place on the other side of earth, though it is transferred live. 前面两个复杂句的结构似乎有问题 Without video cameras most of the interesting sports contests showing in EPSN will be incapable of presenting in front of the audiences. Also without video cameras, people cannot enjoy the art performances while they are sitting home doing amounts of troublesome housework. Without video cameras, the famous painting works and sculptures will not be familiar for so many art lover who may hardly afford the bill of traveling all world.
Competing with written records, however, video camera has one problem that it often carried by single person who had his or her own opinion about the events on camera so that some of the vital scenes are excluded consciously or subconsciously. Consider how can a person who is a supporter of environmental protection record a video accurately about the processes of deforest? So the attitude decides the quality of the camera operator’s work. Besides, especially when some of the cases come to journalism, the people who are interviewed facing the camera, which is not so common for them, may get nervous and change their normal behavior. Showing no annotations for that condition, the audiences may be misleading. Accordingly, the video camera is not so accurate as the speaker thought and it just as precise as other forms of recording with the potentiality of preconception.
Another compelling reason for written records is that they are made in more concise forms. Some of the writers usually take 100 words to prescribe describe an event while the video cameras may use half an hour to depict it. It is obvious that the written records save time for the readers who may just want to know what happened at a certain time and a certain place. And the video cameras waste the time on much more details of the process people are not so interested. Sometimes, it is ridiculous to give the course when people intend to know the consequence of an event. Therefore, written records, to some extent, can solve this kind of problems that video cameras have.
In sum, the written records are one of the most important documentation forms, which cannot be replaced by any other form. As long as it is concise and as accurate as other forms, in my opinion, it may probably be the everlasting way of recording in the future.
