In the modern society, the technology is developing so rapidly, that the function of video is more and more varies and enhanced. As a tool of documentation, it of course plays a important role. But it doesn’t mean that, it contributes more than written records. The two all have their own attributes, and served as complement to each other.
There are a lot of advantages of the video. First and for most, it can record what happened as the event going on. We take the case of live programs into account, it provides the exciting of every turning point of a football match, without knowing the results, lead the audience sitting in front of a television the same feeling with who have time and ability to afford the expensive tickets. Second, The pictures and sounds recorded by the video are vivid and active, this arouses people’s interesting, especially children’s curiosity to pay attention to it. Last but not least, every detail and word can be picked up by video without omitting. Based on its true nature, it can be served as proof on the courtroom. In addition, it can be easily preserved, since a roll of firm, or more advanced, a small memory-chip carries a large amount of data and will not take much space. It is really a gift invented by human, granted by God for documentation.
But nothing is perfect, there are still a lot of limit when using the video to record. The purpose of documentation is not only for memory, but also easy for read, select, and analysis. When the video filmed an event, it needs time as long as in history to capture the whole process. The reflection cannot be the same as it happened before, it is impossible to arrange a camera at every corner, and impossible to follow every one on the scene. But the written record can general the situation, and emphasize what is most important which gives facility for read and select. It is admitted that video can record the sight and sound, but it cannot touch the profound thought of human beings, which is always more critical. We all have the experience of reading newspapers reporting the trend of developing, the main reason for reform. The written records lead us to deep thought too, but the videos just satisfy our sensory perception.
In all, all these tools are the wisdom of us human-beings, it also needs our scientific arrangement to take the full usefulness of the tools in different situations. The most perfect way is to film the scene, then summary it, and also collect all the useful date in a database for future use it time and money is enough.
