---------------题目---------------------
190.The following is a letter to the editor of the Glenville Gazette, a local newspaper.
"Over the past few years, the number of people who have purchased advance tickets for the Glenville Summer Concert series has declined, indicating lack of community support. Although the weather has been unpredictable in the past few years, this cannot be the reason for the decline in advance ticket purchases, because many people attended the concerts even in bad weather. Clearly, then, the reason for the decline is the choice of music, so the organizers of the concert should feature more modern music in the future and should be sure to include music composed by Richerts, whose recordings Glenville residents purchase more often than any other contemporary recordings. This strategy will undoubtedly increase advance ticket purchases and will increase attendance at the concerts."

B2.批判是由于音乐选择问题导致预定票数减少
B3.批判Modern music, and Richerts's music 就是好的选择
-------------------正文-------------------------
In this argument, the arguer conclude that the organizers of the Glenville Summer Concert should feature more modern music in the future and should be sure to include music composed by Richerts. To substantiate the conclusion, the arguer provides the evidences that the numbers of people purchasing advance tickets has declined in recently years and Richerts’s recordings are more popular than others among Glenville residents. However, the argument is unwarranted for several critical fallacies.
First, the arguer fails to convince us that the Glenville Concert series really lack community support. There is no direct evidence that the decline of purchasing advanced tickets means actually few attendances at the concert. Although the arguer try to rule out the influence of bad weather by explaining that many people attended the concerts whatever the weather were, it doesn’t imply that the bad weather didn’t impact on the purchasing advance tickets. Maybe it’s really done. Furthermore, it’s equally possible that some reasons like temporal confusion of the advanced tickets manage system result in the decline, but more people will go to the concert buying tickets on the spot. So the arguer is unfair to equal the number of people who purchase advanced tickets with the number of audiences attended the concerts.
Secondly, even if we admitted that the Concerts lack community support truly, another unfounded assumption with this argument is that the reason for the decline in advance ticket purchases is the choice of music. There is no word suggesting that the decline were resulting from any reasons, including wrongly choosing the music at the Glenville Concerts. Meanwhile, the arguer ignores other relevant factors concerning the decline of buying advance tickets, such as depressing economy, lower income in local areas, and even bad performance in the concerts, and so forth. Thus the arguer arbitrarily believes that they should feature more modern music, which is oversimplified and unwarranted.
In addition, the arguer commits a fallacy of assuming that local residents would undoubtedly be interested in modern music especially the music composed by Richards. Even if we concede that the organizers falsely chose the music played in the concerts, it doesn’t mean that the residents are fond of modern music, rather than pop music, classic music, or jazz, etc. Moreover, it’s also unguaranted that Richerts’s music, which is popular in recordings, is also popular in the concerts. Possibly, people enjoy the live show by Richerts alone, not by others. Meanwhile, it’s equally possible that Richerts’s music is too hard to perform in the concerts by this bond.
In summary, the argument is not persuasive as it stands. The suggestion that whether Glenville Summer Concert series should feature more modern music in the future and should be sure to include music composed by Richerts deserves more consideration by the organizers.
