题目:In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach.
-----------------------

Should professors work outside of the academic world in professions relevant to their field? In my view, although practice contributes a lot to better understanding of knowledge and also better instruction with graduate students through research in certain fields, this is not applicable to all areas of study. In addition, other factors could also bring advancement to an academic field of study.

It might seem tempting to agree with the speaker, on the basis that practice would help better understanding of knowledge. While knowledge is the mere and dead facts, practices could help one to understand and build the disciplines of interaction with such facts. Too often, one is regarded as a master and awarded a college degree simply because of the number of courses taken. Without truly understanding of the facts, the construction of discipline, it is impossible for one to apply it to their job. Facing with the massive stubborn facts in the information era, it is quite likely that professors have not truly understood their knowledge in order to properly instruct students. After all, if the professor himself does not understand knowledge, how would he appropiately teach his students to understand it?

However, the foci would be too narrow if we over-emphasize on the benefits of practices in professions, while ignoring the applicability of such measures. Although working in professions outside of school would help professors in certain fields, this is not true for every field. In fact, imposing such measures for all areas of study would either be harmful or impractical. In pure theoretical areas, such as analytical mathematics or theoretical physics, the advancement places a high emphasis on cogitative and reasoning skills-the intellect. The main work for them is to read and study the experiment results of others in order to summarize a theory. In that event, it would be a waste of time to force them in professions.  Einstein said: "My laboratory is in my brain, enabling me to work and do experiment at any time and any place." Moreover, it would be impractical for certain professors of certain fields to find a relevant profession. What is the relevant profession for professors in atomic physics, in the 1940's? Thus it would not be possible for a university to impose such measures on all professors.

Furthermore, a university cannot solely rely on such measures to bring advancement to an academic field, through which graduate students could learn most.  Looking into history, it would not be hard to understand that prosperity of any academic area requires many other factors, such as the improvement of lab technology for massive accumulation of facts and data that would not be obtained before, the appearance of genius in a proper time, and proper economic and social conditions. Without the interaction of these factors, a school cannot expect academic advancement on a mere policy for professors to gain more working experiences. Instead, a college should take other measures as well to improve instruction, such as insurance of adequate funds and better academic atmosphere.

In the final analysis, the speaker's assertion is partly true. Practice in relevant professions would have merit for professors in certain fields. However this does not mean that such policy is applicable to all fields of study. In addition, a college should also take other measures to improve instruction.

Should professors work outside of the academic world in professions relevant to their field? In my view, although practice contributes a lot to research development in certain fields, this is not applicable to all (if not all, there should be certain exceptions listed)areas of study. In addition, other factors(也要再具体) could also bring advancement to an academic field of study.

It might seem tempting to agree with the speaker, on the basis that practice would help better understanding of knowledge.(从开头到这里的模版味好重啊:)) While knowledge is the mere and dead facts, practices could help one to understand and build the disciplines of interaction with such facts. Too often, one is regarded as a master and awarded a college degree simply because of the number of courses taken. Without truly understanding of the facts, the construction of discipline, it is impossible for one to apply it to their job. Facing with the massive stubborn facts in the information era, it is quite likely that professors have not truly understood their knowledge in order to properly conduct researches. In addition, the only aim of researches in applied sciences is practical application in professional fields, generally the improvement of work efficiency and convenience. Therefore work experience in that field would help one to obtain a clear goal of research and also understand whether the outcome of his research would have merit.(个人认为这段跑题了,题目是instruction=teaching,这里写的都是how practice benefits research)

However, the foci would be too narrow if we over-emphasize on the benefits of practices in professions, while ignoring the applicability of such measures. Although working in professions outside of school would help professors in certain fields, this is not true for every field.(感觉还是在写research!!) In fact, imposing such measures for all areas of study would either be harmful or impractical. What is the relevant profession for experimental research in atomic physics, in the 1940's? Thus it would not be possible for a university to impose such measures on all professors.

Furthermore, a university cannot solely rely on such measures to bring advancement to an academic field. Instead, a college should take other measures as well to stimulate research, such as insurance of adequate funds and better academic atmosphere.(全篇都是在写research benefit from practice,再结合154,觉得动笔之前对题目的逻辑分析不够,甚至对关键字眼都没有给予足够重视)

In the final analysis, the speaker's assertion is partly true. Practice in relevant professions would have merit for professors in certain fields. However this does not mean that such policy is applicable to all fields of study. In addition, a college should also take other measures to stimulate research.
