There is much debate over whether artist or critic gives society something of lasting value. Some people maintain that artist contributes to lasting value on society, while others argue that the major factor owes to critic. As far as I am concerned, these two forces are not exclusive, they depend on each other to give their lasting value.

On the one hand, artist through their great workers express their own value or idea to others. Although the idea hiding inside the works is abstruse, people can not understand them at once, which maybe is just the lasting value. True appreciation of arts occurs at the moment we encounter art. Our sense, even inspire and soul have been impacted by the art; on other words, the real value of art. Many examples come into my mind. The great work, Mona Lisa, created by Leonardo da Vinci, who was one of the most famous painters in the world contributes to our society. When you stand before the Mona Lisa's smile, a strong feeling of astonishing, cheerful, and mystery may grab your heart, the wonderful painting makes us think deep.  Another example involves Beethoven, eminent musician, composing abundant solos, concertos, symphonies and so forth.  When you listen to the fifth symphony of him, Fate symphony, people will find a stimulation to encourage you to make progress and go ahead without haste.  Few would disagree such masterworks will exist for another centuries and take a effect on our society. From the examples mentioned above, it is no difficult to see that it is the artist who gives valuable things to society by creating wonderful works.

On the other hand, critic also makes amounts of contribution to society with something of lasting value. Fine art by means of paints and brushes expresses the idea of artist, which is often abstract and abstruse, uneasy for general people to understand.  A great poem, Ode to the West Wind written by Shelley who was a romantic poet comes into my mind. Without critique, it is arduous for us understand such meaning that the west wind indicates the storm of great revolution underlying the surface of the letters. From this point, perhaps critics also make a contribution to the greatness of Shelley. Furthermore, at the beginning, few people pay attention to these unknown masterworks until they are discovered by critics. In short, critics also give contribution to society of something of lasting value by way of their special work.  

Moreover, artist is not on the contrary side to critic but depends on each other. A good artist who wants to promote his creativity and technique need to evaluate works created by other artists and absorb others' view particularly critics who are expert in the art field. In this occasion, a artist sometimes plays as a critic. And a preeminent critic not only needs the knowledge of critique but also is required to understand art, artist, social background, and so forth. Thus, a critic is also a artist to some extent.  For example, Gong Li, an eminent actor in China often are invited as a critic to participate in some celebrated film festival such as Cannes International film festival. So it is difficult and unnecessary to tell the artists and critics precisely if only they can bring something valuable and lasting.

To sum up, without artist, who serves to lift the human spirit and to put us more in touch with our feelings? Without critic, who serves to discover these masterpieces from countless artistic work? Thus, it is not necessary to discriminate who gives society something of lasting value, for the reason that both of them make a significant contribution mutually.

我觉得b1,b2并没有突出lasting value，只是分别说了艺术家和评论家都会给我带来value，其实要突出，应该在例子后面再加一点评述说明就可以了，达芬奇的例子觉得你写得不好不如去掉，对贝多芬多加点评论，不要担心字数
