First of all, the nonmainstream areas have act as a important part in our society, as most of them have existed in our society for quite a long period and have win their popularity among a large number of people. On the one hand, they can give people a spiritual support, especially in the ancient times. And the belief in these study shared by the public can reinforce the solidity of the society or a country. On the other hand, they sometimes provide people with the courage to fight against the unknown future which the other study can’t, thus they help the development of society, in a sense, which we cannot efface.

What's more, they do not antagonize these mainstream subjects completely, however, in some cases they even act as a propeller for the orthodox. For example, when people haven't established a profound and complete scientific system about the university as well as the human beings, there must refer to something else to obtain a satisfying explanation, and the astrology, fortune-telling and other nonmainstream theories come into help, which not only meet their original curiosity, but also inspire the human’s intention to find the truth. It was also the work done by some nonmainstream scholars, if ever, that gives birth to the modern technology and science. To cite the astronomy as an illustration, as a matter of fact, their previous format is astronomy, which mainly engages in the work of star observation in order to tell the future. But when more and more data were collected, they find some nature rules in them then the new field of astronomy comes into being.

Though the nonmainstream areas have their significances, we must always keep in mind their potential risks, since they, in themselves, lacks the basic principle which is according to the physical world, and if used improperly, might stir up some kind of disaster.

They might confuse people's understanding of some phenomena such as the activity of nature as well as the existence of ghost, which might lead them onto a wrong way.

It is not strange to us that many heretics have used people's belief in some nonmainstream ideas, such as the existence of superpower and the existence of a former life, to make benefit for themselves. 总的感觉还是很好的，不过可能是看多了天堂之门--电影！尼古拉斯凯奇演的~--之类的电影，还是对于人类对于弦论的认识研究，我觉得人类对于什么是真理的认识还是会变化的~
