Although the modernization impairs the integrity of certain tradition, I strongly disagree the speaker's assertion that tradition and modernization are incompatible, and one must choose between. In fact, modernization cannot render some traditions obsolete because of their function to give human beings a cultural identity. Moreover, modernization actually serves to preserve marrows of certain traditions and even facilitates them.

Admittedly, the modernization changes our life so much than certain tradition become obsolete and abandoned. As the development of society, including the process of modernization, something new needs to be added to our societies, it is equally nature that some obsolete tradition would be abandoned. For instance, the technology development lowered the threshold of strength for work, and absorbs women into the region of labor force, which almost replace the tradition that one family only has husband as bread-winner with numerous double-income families. Or the appearance of super market destroy the survival of many traditional groceries as well as tradition that shopping at such stores. In short, as the expense of social advancement, some traditions are sacrificed to keep pace with the faster and faster development.

However, by claiming tradition and modernization are incompatible, the speaker overlook the facts that human being would never give up certain tradition, no matter how significantly modernization change the world, because certain traditions serve as the elblems of their cultures and it is human nature to seek a cultural identity to keep a sense of who we are. After all, the goal of technology is to provide us with a better life rather than to frustrate human beings, who it serves. For example, some rituals and ceremonies--such as weddings or ablutions, which are absolutely important part of a culture's tradition, have changed very little, if any, in the process of modernization, both in western world or other areas over the world. In short, to possess a cultural identity, human beings would never forsake certain tradition despite the strong influence from modernization.

Recognizing that in the process of modernization, new technologies can not destroy certain traditions because of the mental need of human beings. Modernization actually facilitates certain traditions and preserves their marrow well in the process of technology development. After all with the help of modern industry, we can easily purchase some traditional products, which might be only available for minority before. Moreover, modernization actually facilitates some traditions in our society. Let us take family re-unions as a example, which is definite tradition of many cultures. It is true that modern transportation--such as cars, plans, and so forth--allows us much more mobility, on the other hand, such modern convenience also facilitate the travel for certain family re-unions when Charismas and Thanksgiving.

In final analysis, although in the process of modernization, some traditions are impaired by more and more fast pace of our society, modernization actually accomplish much to preserve the morrow of certain traditions and facilitate the of them, which would be telling evidence that tradition and modernization are by all means compatible and we do not need make a choice between them.
