It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

1、讲为什么同意该观点,因为学生在走出社会之前需要有一套基础的知识体系
2、部分同意,将古代社会和现代社会做比较。
3、法律也是一种表达文化。。。的方式

It is generally accepted that students acquire formal education in school to learn basic knowledge such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, classic scientific theory and basic learning skills including accounting, reading and linguistic ability. The author has noticed a grain of truth in the statement that formal education takes the effect, but in modern education, the statement seems not that obvious. Moreover, the author has ignored other factors through which a culture can perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

I generally agree with the assertion that through formal education does a culture try to perpetuate the ideas it favors. Formal education refers to the general social process by which teachers instruct students in course of study within institution. The classic theory in textbook tells us generally accepted truth which has been proved for many years. In most cases, students should obtain knowledge systematically and fundamentally before they are encouraged to learn more outside classes. In addition, since culture is a means of transmitting knowledge generation by generation. To certain extent, government and education center provide formal education reflect the culture's function so that people besides youth can unintentionally and systematically accept what our culture tries to inform us.

As far as formal education is concerned with traditional ideas and new concepts, such as the formal education in ancient times, does discredit the ideas it fears. In challenging earth-center theory, Copernicus' idea was regarded an outrageous one that many so-called wisdom or authorities educated by formal education fiercely rejected the new idea. Moreover, cultural values and biases have something to do with personal qualification of education, such as gender or social group discriminations. In Greece, where women have no legal or economic rights, most women did not attend school with formal education. Some girls, however, educated at home by tutors. Slaves and other noncitizens had either no formal education or very little. But for now, it is not the case. Formal education in modern education especially in university is responsible not only to perpetuate ideas but to nurture the students’ critical analysis and skepticism

Finally, the author ignores other significant means by which our culture perpetuates ideas it favors and discredits ideas it fears. The law, rules out the fact that what people should obey and when we are punished because of disobedience. Laws defining and setting punishments for crimes have varied enormously among different cultures and during different time periods. Example of marriage law illustrates a culture’s of social and political attitudes about gender. The respect for justice presents the statement that culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.

In sum, formal education represents a cultural transmitting method that is generally accepted by most people. In many cases it perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit ideas it fears. However, To analyze a fact to be a truth or not is open to student's mind. The purpose of education is to encourage critical thinking rather than teaching only.

从body部分来看总的position是有保留的agree,但是summary中给我的感觉好像是中立甚至有点disagree的意思,不知道是不是我自己理解的原理
