51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

The speaker asserts that only those education meeting the needs and interests of students will be truly effective. Undoubtedly, this topic should be the hottest one in the current education field, since new generation appeals to more individual and specialized education whereas the traditional education system requiring each student to study on the same curriculum is being questioned constantly. However, in my point of view, the individual needs and interests of student should to be paid attention to, meanwhile, the ordinary education needs to be strongly exerted as well.

As to the individual needs and interests in the procedure of students’ study, I should say that, it is indeed the real impetus that inspires students to study hard and spend time on the subject willingly. A striking example will stuck us is the story of Newton. He was so enthusiastic about physics that caused him to spend much more leisure time on researching and testing those basic physical principals. Lessons on physics to Newton was like an interesting game, not so boring and troublesome as it showed to other students of the same age. Therefore, we can assure that the great gravity theory was brought out not only by diligent works, but also from the great interest Newton had himself. As for our university students, lectures we lay interests on will be those practical ones that do help us to achieve success or to find an excellent job in the near future. In another word, those will transfer knowledge to products easily and rapidly. So many job-oriented curriculums appear more and more in universities’ education plans definitely prove this assertion.

However, the traditional education still provides great benefits and positive effects that cannot be easily replaced and overwhelmed. It is established through the long year’s survey and testing, also has been rectified and perfected several times under the great thinking of those experienced educators. Maybe those lessons like mathematics, arts, literatures and ethics are not so productive as lessons like decorum or job-hunting, but they are the basic education that help to form a complete person and will affect a student implicitly even during his or her whole life. For example, mathematics will improve our logical thinking, arts will let us understand the beauty, literatures will help us to express ourselves well and ethics will evaluate us to be a well-being person mentally.

Otherwise, the more intense competition of the contemporary society set higher standards than ever before for people. We need to be equipped with various knowledge to enrich ourselves, not only those we are interested in. Let us see this example, what most important element to be a successful president is that he should have a good command of organizing and controlling ability what requires him to know everything at least a little, that is relevant to the country’s affairs including military, economy, technological advance, education and social welfares and so forth. Like George J. Bush, the current president of United States of America, got his bachelor degree of law in Yale University, and went on with his study in business management in Harvard University in order to prepare himself as a qualified and diverse president candidate in the later years.

As it stands, although specialized education catering students’ interests and needs is advocated to be executed in the current education system, traditional and canonical education will keep on its dominant position in quite long periods. What we should do is to perfect those traditional ones and make them more diversified and practical, while appositely combine with some specialized curriculum to instigate students’ enthusiasm in study.
