Issue 51
Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
提纲:
1. The specifically designed education does contribute to the effective education.
2. It is difficult in many cases that a no specifically designed education achieves effective results.
3. Uniform education can also succeed in some cases.
The arguer claims that if education is not specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, it will not be really effective. At the first glance, the argument is somewhat reasoned. However, after close examination, I believe that the specifically designed education is very important indeed, but it is not the unique pattern of effective education.
Firstly, the specifically designed education does contribute to the effective education. The great educationists, from the ancient to modern, epitomized in Confucius, all emphasize on the importance of the pattern of education, whose context is specifically designed to the special needs and interests of each student. Confucius put forward that it is crucial for effective education that teachers teach the students according to their advantages and needs. It is largely possible that the special pattern of education leaded to Confucius's success in education, who is the first and most important educationist in China and also an international-famous educationist. Until now, many modern educationists attach great importance to the idea and make innovations based on it.
Secondly, it is difficult in many cases that a no specifically designed education achieves effective results. Generally speaking, if an education system is not specifically designed to each student's needs and interests, the students' needs will not be satisfied, their interests will not be actively encouraged and cultivated. Suppose that Mozart, a famous pianist who began to play piano in only three years old, had not gotten the specifically designed piano education. Is it possible that he became one of the greatest pianists in human history? I think that this example illustrates it clearly and convincingly that without specific designation according to the characters of each student, the education will not be effective in some cases.
Finally, however, uniform education can also succeed in some cases. When a student is in elementary school or middle school, perhaps he or she does not know what he or she need to learn and how to learn the knowledge. But when he or she enters university or college, he or she as an undergraduate, or postgraduate should be able to solve the problems, at least partly of them. Then, the uniform pattern of education may succeed. Many universities' successes have proved it through providing uniform education and giving students the right of choice.
In sum, the specifically designed education according to the characters of each student does contribute to the effective education. However, the uniform education can also play its role in some cases.
