History is like a storehouse, we can always find what we need in it. The study of history cannot only help us in our everyday life, but also promote the progress of the society and the advancement in science.

When people study history, it is not hard for them to find out some shining figures in it. From the stories of these great individuals we know how they grow up, develop, and succeed. The stories can tell us what life is and inspire us of what is a life that is worth living. And they may give us a hint of what kind of people we should be and how to achieve success. From the great individuals, we can be aware of what kind of characters is needed for people to be successful. We can learn persistence from Madam Curie; optimism from Mozart; passion from Van Gogh; bravery from Galileo. All these characteristics are crucial for people to live a good life and achieve success. The great figures in history can serve as models for people. By learning from them we can behave better in our daily life.

History is not only useful in people's daily lives. It can also help people in larger scale, and promote the progress of human.

History help the society develop better. History is the events that happened in the past and the spirits handed down to the present. By studying what happened in the past, the society can get treasures. In some sense, history repeat it self. And when similar conditions happen again we can search into history to find some answers for reference. After the World War II, Japanese government carefully studied into the history of the developed countries and decided to develop capitalism in Japan, which turned out to be a wise decision. For it helps Japan grow up to be one of the top countries in the world in less than twenty years. It is the study of history pointed a road for Japanese people. Whether good examples and bad examples in the history can help us to deal with the similar situation we face. The good examples are to be learned from; and the bad examples to be avoided.

In science, the study of history also plays an important role. When scientists look back into history, they can also find something that can help their current study. When being exposed to a completely new field, it is common for people to be confused about where to start. Many scientists also face similar situation. And almost all of them treat this situation in the same way--study the history of the field. They read the thesis and documentations of the former scientists, repeat the classical experiments conducted by the great masters. During this practice, the figure of the new field looms and new phenomenon or new ideas usually reveal. As Newton said, "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of the giants." The knowledge of human is always accumulating, because of scientists continues to consult the history. Science is always progressing, because we are always working on the base which the past great scientists established.

History is relevant to people's daily life, but its value lies not only in this extant. Without the study of history, society may progresses slower; without the study of history science may advances more difficult. History will always be the treasure for the human being.
